I am reading people wrong here? Miami +6 means they were a dog, not a favorite.

Where are the Carolina fans this morning? :)

I thought UNC would win this game until Miami took Bullock and McAdoo out of the game during the 2nd half. I am not accustomed to UNC having a 7 minute drought.

Yea, the thirty people in attendance definitely know a thing or two on how to "rock" a sweater vest.

North Carolina home games are proof that someone, somewhere, still makes a buck selling sweater vests.

15 min. to go and tied. This is where the wheels usually start to come off the carolina wagon.

I don't have access to the stats at half but I think bilas said there had only been 2 fouls called on unc late in the 1st half. So they're getting their normal officiating in acc conference.

Who is officiating the State/Duke game? For the love of everything, I hope it's Hess! LOL!

  • Dr. Pwnt Jan 10, 2013

A LOT of empty seats in the nose dome. Maybe half full. Unlike the others though, I think UNC pulls this one out at home.

I don't disagree with this assessment.

The only thing I would add is the wild card -- is KARL HESS officiating this game? If so, then all bets are off.

12 would be a very strong outing for the canes, although they have been exceptional on the road this season.

I've seen Miami play a bunch this year as well as UNC. I think Miami by at least 12. I think the Miami guards will be too much to handle and the other Miami guys just need to be physical and avoid foul trouble. The keys I think will be Miami staying out of foul trouble, their ability to keep UNC under 33% from the arc and also their ability to keep UNC off the boards.

Hard to believe they will lose at home, after coming off a tough acc road loss, but stranger things happen all the time.

The average person that follows college basketball has probably seen every UNC loss, their win over UNLV and has yet to even know when Miami played a game. That's why the Vegas line info is based on pretty much no intelligence.

Alot of people placing bets probably can't even name 3 players on Miami's roster.

If the spread has INCREASED since the opening bell, then yes. Too many people are betting on UNC.

If this is the opening spread, it means they EXPECT more people to bet on Carolina, and therefore, need to encourage a few to bet on Miami so they don't "take a bath" on this game.

How many times am I going to have to explain how "Vegas" works?

Here's a hint: They are NOT in the business of picking the winner. There is a lot more in play here than who wins the game. They know there are still enough dummies out there that are ALWAYS going to bet on Carolina over Miami in a home game. So they have to encourage some people to bet on Miami, hence they make them more attractive by giving them some points.

^Agreed, Paige will need his best outing to win this one tonight.

  • 903 mens national championships Jan 10, 2013

If UNC wins, it would mean Paige played his best game of the season on both offense and defense. He will have his hands full since Miami's starting guards can both initiate offense and are both capable of scoring like shooting guards. Miami's coach is used to playing as the underdog in road games with his years at George Mason so don't expect his players to be unprepared to play in a hostile road environment.

I predicted Miami by 8, but 6 sounds about right. Do not be surprised though if UNC takes this game. I think they may be tired of hearing how they are not good and I expect the "older" guys to show up tonight.
