I do not know the reasoning behind the Duke decision, but believe the student deserves an explanation.

Question for you there sensitive sally.

Have you ever in your life called someone redarded or laughed at a friend or someone on tv or in person for the way they run or walk if it is out of the norm?

The NCAA isn't investigating Duke and that LT issue has been dropped. UNC on the other hand still has 4 current investigations and I don't have time to list a million Links.

Awww is that the best you can do, little chapped one? Keep it up and I might start to wonder about your mental abilities.

EDIT: no wait I take that back. Past discussions with you have established that you are in fact mentally challenged. So did you medal this past weekend?

Equating the poster to a Special Olympian is the same as making fun of the indiviudal. I am sure that the poster does not deal with the daily challenges of those individuals, therefore, joking about it is uncalled for!

If you are making fun of a person by linking him to a group of people, you are also making fun of that group of people.

    Reasonable folks can see that.

He didnt make fun of the Special Olympians, he made fun of the poster.

I love how some of you can take a comment and twist it to show outrage or put down a poster.

It is a talk smack forum, if you cant handle it, get out.

just another mole hill that "licks me liberally" tried to make into a mountain. anything to divert attention away from the continuing academic/athletic scandal over at cheater hill. love it when the actual professors refute Jumbo Martin's thinly veiled "independent" investigation. just another example of 40 years of arrogance...and still going on.

As I said earlier, I didn't know if the story as reported was true. If you are correct, then the story is not true. No mention was made about Holliday being able to return in the Fall semester. It just said he would not be readmitted. This makes much more sense.

  • Metta World Biff Jan 14, 2013

I'm a UNC fan and dislike Duke athletics as much as the next guy but there is nothing here.

There is a good explanation for this. If you take a medical withdrawal from Duke, you cannot re-enroll until after 2 semesters have passed. This is a policy for all students and has nothing to do with him being an athlete. This rule is in place for 2 reasons. First, it's to make students be absolutely sure that a medical withdrawal is the right choice. Bear in mind that a medical withdrawal wipes clean your grades for that semester as if they never happened. Second, it gives the student ample time to recover and be sure that coming back is the right choice.
Medical conditions are not all the same so maybe there is room for exceptions. Or maybe it's a no-exception policy. Either way, this young man is re-enrolling at Duke this Fall, exactly according to school policy. Rules are rules.

If he wants to go back to school without worry of getting rejected, he should just apply to UNC.

I wasn't aware that Zoubek had a brain injury?

As for Holliday, what else is he to do now that his favorite school has kicked him to the curb after his doctors gave him a clearance?

    Shameful. Just shameful.

The doctor might be able to recommend he attempt to resume a normal life, but is it his decision or Duke's decision whether Holliday has a good chance to be successful doing it at Duke? IMO, the re-application process puts the decision in the hands of the University. Due to privacy laws and the fact that neither of us knows anything about Holliday's current status, I can only assume Duke rejected the application based on something they saw during the re-application process.

I don't even know if the report is true. But there is a difference between being "the same person" and being able to succeed. That seems to me more a question for his doctors.

How is it in the best interest of a student with a GPA of 3.75 to not be allowed to return to school? How is it in Duke's best interest?

Duke's looking out for his best interest. Sounds logical to me. I guess you UNC fans aren't used to football players actually having to do the schoolwork to succeed. It's different at other schools.
