Since the '97-'98 season Duke Men's Basketball has held the #1 spot for 72 weeks. That's 8 weeks more than the next two programs combined.

    Don't think so. ACC championships for Duke went up dramatically after Dean Smith retired.

    1981-1997 (17 seasons): Duke wins 3 ACC tourneys and 5 ACC regular seasons with Dean around

    1998-2012 (15 seasons): Duke wins 10 ACC tourneys and 7 ACC regular seasons without Dean at the helm of UNC

    Sorry, the evidence doesn't support your assertion.

    Considering Coach K has been a head coach since 1975 I would hope he would have more championships than Roy. Roy has only been a head coach since 1988. Roy has the higher winning %, and if they started coaching at the same time Roy would have more wins than K. K is a great coach, but Roy is a hall of fame coach as well.

    Too bad Dean couldn't beat Bubas in the head to head. Vic whooped him like a rented mule.

    Actually, again, you are missing the point.

    I'm not questioning K's coach ability. I am saying both coaches have had success to be proud of.

    You are more concerned with who was better, as if it means something to you.

    It is always going to be a subjective measure. And if you can't accept that, it is your problem.

    The BOY was also basically saying Duke is a program worthy of bragging about beating.

    It slapped itself right upside its BOY head.

    Again, not discussing the actual points but changing the subject.

    Seems to be a bad habit you have.

    But expected. Thanks for playing.

    Here's something else, that simply will not go away:

    dook also lost to Dean 24 times while Kiwi was at the helm. 24 TIMES!Wow. What other school/coach can claim that?

    Funny, K and Duke had as much or more success when DES was at UNCheat.

    I know it is all you Holes have to go on, but if you think head to head is fair, when DES had been at UNCheat for 20 years before K got to Duke, that is fine. That is a you problem. I bet you also think that recruting at UNCheat and Duke were on even ground during the 80's and early 90's also.

    Coaches are measured on NC's. Well, unless you had all these supposed NBA top 50 players and could only win 2. Then it is the head to head against your rival that matters.

    I dont have many t-shirts that discuss the head to head between Duke and UNCheat, but I do have 4 NC tshirts and one with all the NC's on it. And I do not see many UNCheat fans in the triangle with the head to head tshirts on either.

    Here let me help.

    All time,

    K=4
    Roy = 2, one with his own players
    Calhoun=3, no chance for anymore
    Donovan=2

    congratulations.....during that time Dook has been a number 1, 2 seed 14 times and have lost in the Sweet 16 or Earlier 9 of those times..giving them the worse record as a 1 or 2 seed during that time frame.

    Good For Dook. During that same time frame;

    Mike K=2
    Roy=2
    Calhoun=3
    Donovan=2

    I think they can live with Dook being number more than their programs! :)

    Duke went to 7 of 9 FF's and won back to back NC's when Dean was still at UNCheat.

    Anything else?

  • DooksucksV3 Jan 23, 2013

    I guess that helps to explain K's record number of times being the #1 seed and getting booted from the tournament in the sweet 16 or earlier.
