RE: Karl Hess to referee State/UNC game
- Posted by Ken D.- Posted by Rameses UnchainedBadgers already lining up his excuses. The way he sees it, NCSU has never lost a game, the refs just take it away from them...and they can't understand why they have struggled to put a winning program together. LMAO.- Posted by SportznutV2.0I think I'd rather have Hess than Valentine.- Posted by TruthBKnown Returned
We would certainly lose, but it would almost be worth it for the hell the fans would give him.
why would you lose? missed FT's? bad shot selection? Turnovers?
There was a time - long, long ago - when the shoe was on the other foot. When Bones McKinney was coaching at Wake (before they moved to Winston-Salem) they played State at Reynolds. Lou Bello was the ref that day, and old Bones was getting apoplectic.
After a particularly egregious call, Bones jumped up to give Bello an earful as he ran past the bench. Without missing a beat, Lou said "Sit down and quit complaining, Bones. We're only up by five!"
Ken that reminds me of a Duke/unc game back in the late 80's at Cameron. The players just finished their warm-ups and as they were coming off the floor Lenny Wertz walked by the Duke bench. Coach K asked "Lenny what do you think about the game"? Lenny replied (still in stride) "we'll beat you by at least two." It may have been the same game where Dean got irate and slammed down on the scorers table changing the game score and Lenny refused to call the technical.
