ACC Tourney in NYC

ACC Tourney in NYC

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8906054/acc-eyes-men-hoops-tournament-new-york-source-says

Because of the Atlantic Coast Conference's increased footprint in the Northeast, the ACC is interested in holding a future men's basketball tournament in New York, an ACC school official told ESPN.

The deadline to bid for the 2016-21 ACC tournaments was in September, and New York's Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn did not submit a bid.

However, because of the league's changing membership, the ACC is now considering other options for future tournament sites, the source said.

Besides New York, other cities being considered to host the 2016-21 ACC tournaments are Atlanta (Philips Arena), Charlotte, Greensboro, N.C., Tampa, Fla., and Washington D.C.

The 2013-15 ACC men's basketball tournaments will be held in Greensboro, but beyond that, the ACC is looking to move the tournament to a variety of cities.

Four cities -- Miami, Orlando, Pittsburgh and Atlanta (Georgia Dome), who all submitted a bid to host a tournament between 2016-21 -- have been eliminated from contention to host. Despite the Georgia Dome hosting the two highest-attended conference tournaments (the 2001 and '09 ACC tournaments), it was eliminated because of the ACC's preference to place future tournaments in more traditional basketball arenas instead of domes.

On Friday, league athletic directors, staff members and faculty advisers completed three days of the ACC's winter meetings in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

This fall, Pittsburgh and Syracuse will join the ACC, with Louisville and Notre Dame expected to join in 2014, sources told ESPN.

What kind of a stoopid comment is that? An actual relevant post with potential ramifications for all acc schools isn't welcome here on this supposed acc sports site?

Insane.

And yet, here you are. Posting.

RE: ACC Tourney in NYC

Nothing wrong with it. Thats what you get for expanding the league. UNC, and Duke fans cant get the homecourt advantage all the time ( Greensboro, Charlotte).

Looks like moving the ACC Tourney to NYC out of Greensboro is picking up momentum again...
