An excerpt from the article about athletes caught in the scandal involving 70 student dismissals according to the article...

"The episode has given a black eye to one of the world's great educational institutions, where in an average year, 17 students are forced out for academic dishonesty. It was a heavy blow to sports programs, because the class drew a large number of varsity athletes, some of them on the basketball team. Two players accused of cheating withdrew in September rather than risk losing a year of athletic eligibility on a season that disciplinary action could cut short."

Considering some of the "electives" athletes take to get through at all the universities, and considering that it has happened at one of the most prestigious universities in this great nation, you better hope your university officials are keeping a watchful eye, and even then, you are going to miss some.

Nice deflection idjit. No defense, never have defended anything that happened at UNC. I've been pretty pizzed about it and have been pretty e-vocal about cleaning it up. I'd like to have all of them that did this publicly shamed like the old days and rode out of town on a rail, but my liberal friends at UNC and other places would call that "inhumane". Just reminding you "holier than thou" cultists your toilet stinks just as bad as anyones. You will be seeing the NCAA one fine day in the future.

I hate the excuse "everybody does it" even though its probably more true than not. I would like to think the school that I pull for would never do such a thing but it happened. The football team was penalized and hopefully learned a lesson. Glad it was isolated and never spread to other athletic programs.

***Not worried about State fans and their opinions. One of the most penalized programs in NCAA history with low academic standards as facts show with yearly rankings! Oh and not a lot to brag about with athletics as well! Jealousy is the ultimate compliment. Thank you red ragers!!!

I agree Larry, I don't care who does it or if "everybody does it", UNC should not be doing it and it should have never happened. I thought as much as Thorp tried to fix things, ultimately, he is the captain of the ship and he needed to go down with the others. So not an excuse, just reminding those that were hating on us that Karma is a Big Fat Lady and she is just tuning up.

The one stat that puzzles me that I hope NCSU is doing something about is the disparity of graduation rates between white football players and black football players. It's one of the largest gaps of most schools surveyed and puts them in the Top 10. According to the Red Ragers on here they only recruit "academically competent athletes" (you listening Badger?). So what is happening over there at Bovine U? I'm thinking Yow and Doeren will get that corrected because it's Gott to be hurting the recruiting pitch.

Because we have a FSU dolt on here that will ask for a "link", and he is missing a few mental links, I thought I'd give him one ahead of time.

I think there is a distinction to be made about academic cheating in general and academic cheating in athletics. Academic cheating is endemic in American society. It occurs in every institution. No exceptions.

Academic cheating in athletics is a direct byproduct of pretending that a professional sports enterprise is an amateur endeavor, and one in which academic achievement matters. When you have a system that tacitly allows coaches to cut athletes who are succeeding in the classroom but not performing at a high level on the field of play, you are encouraging academic cheating. You shouldn't be surprised when you get what you encourage.
