No worries, bro...it's just part of their "little brother/inferiority" complex. Well, except for TUK....he's just all about conspiracies, LOL.

Stated a fact. Since I did not want to post the number and you have grabbed Rameses horns, it's 53rd. You already knew recruiting was going to be a challenge this year. Gave your coach a compliment for not letting it go to pieces with the TOBy firing. Now, please tell me what part of a "fact" is "putting you down"?

IIRC, less than half of the recruits originally courted by TOB. Soooo yes Coach D did most of it himself in 6 weeks.

Half or more of the incoming class was already assembled by TOB before he left. He had been working on these recruits all year so your new man didn't do it all in the 6 weeks he has been their. At least 2/3 were already committed however I will give him props for keeping them and he did add a few more good players so he did work hard. Just didn't do it all himself in 6 weeks

TBK, I know you are a Pack Pride (Scout) reader/contributor. So no doubt you know of James Henderson, the lead moderator and recruit tracker for PP. He was the one who posted that ESPN is the most thorough, accurate, and reliable recruiting service, primarily due to it's vast resources and ability to conduct the most evalautions. Is he in cahoots with the UNC grad at ESPN?

And with UNCs sanctions that reduced their schollys available, they could have potentially been even higher in the rankings.

with 7-8 more 3 and 4 star players likely...could have been inside the top 15.

"It was the insinuation that a key company officer would risk his integrity and the credibility of the rankings simply in order for his school to be included in the rankings at overstated value."

Agreed. That is just TBK being TBK. He sees everything as a vast conspiracy to make Carolina look better (at State's expense, of course). You can argue that the scouts who evaluate players for ESPN are better or worse than the scouts for Rivals, Scout or 24-7 Sports. But unless they can influence which school a student chooses to attend, there can be no ranking bias.

And, frankly, when it comes to TBK's views about bias for UNC, I don't think even he believes half of what he says. He just likes to stir the pot.

Of course there is a committee that evaluates and assigns grades (stars) to these prospects. That committee may be one individual or ten or fifty. But the fact is there is judging and scoring.

It's not the arithmetic that I took issue with (although I take issue with the total number of players committed/signed as increasing the class "value" by way of extra points...that makes little sense to me). It was the insinuation that a key company officer would risk his integrity and the credibility of the rankings simply in order for his school to be included in the rankings at overstated value.

I am always amazed at the number of mooers that visit the UNC board(s). No one outside of Raleigh is even aware moo exists so the poor little irrelevant idjits flock to the UNC topics screaming "look at us, look at us!", lol. Always hyped and always mediocre they are simply the redheaded step-children in a state dominated by different shades of blue and they know it. And it eats at them...constantly. And we loooooove knowing it. Poor mooers. Poor pitiable mooers.

Another weakness in this ranking system is that it doesn't give credit for new players who are not coming out of the HS class of 2013. So State's success in attracting two transfers and two JUCO's is not reflected in their ranking.

What makes you think there is a committee that decides which school is ranked where? The only thing that determines a school's ESPN class ranking is arithmetic.

Each potential recruit has been evaluated and given a numerical score. Those with the highest scores are given five stars, slightly lower scores get four stars, and so on. On signing day, a school gets 5 points for every five star recruit that signs an LOI, 4 points for every four star recruit, etc. Thus, Carolina 17 recruits got them a total of 60 points. They had 10 four stars (40 points), 6 three stars (18) and one two star (2).

The school with the highest aggregate score using this formula is ranked #1. To suggest that there is selection bias in the rankings makes no sense. Carolina had the 20th highest number of points from the recruits that actually signed LOI's. The reason their ranking dropped from #18 to #20 on signing day is that some players who had previously committed to one school changed their minds on signing day. No conspiracies here, folks.

It's one thing when someone refuses to acknowledge that historical results between two schools such as State and Carolina in football and basketball suggest utter domination of one school over the other. Fan and school loyalty will cause me to overlook that. But to offer a notion that John Skipper would risk the credibility of ESPN, not to mention his own, by alloting Carolina a #20 ranking...and with the go-ahead of the committee selected to create the rankings no less...just to somehow glorify the school's football program is preposterous.

And yet, 24-7 Sports has UNC ranked #28, Scout has them at #30, and Rivals has them at #39.

Looks like ESPN, which is run by a UNC grad, is the only one ranking UNC's class so high.

This is some pretty easy math if one just wants to do it.

Class rankings are hard to evaluate, since you get rating points for both quality and quantity. As a result, both Texas A&M and Georgia are said to have top ten classes because they signed 34 and 32 players, respectively. Of course, since the NCAA only allows 25 signees per year, they are going to have to play the usual SEC games to get around that pesky limit.

Some of them they will have enrolled already in this Spring semester so they count against last year's limit. Others they will require to delay their enrollment until next January so they will count against the 2014 limit. And some, of course, they will tell that they need to attend prep school for a year so they don't count at all.

If the players who do enroll put them over the aggregate limit of 85 scholarships, they will just cut some upperclassmen who didn't pan out as well as they had hoped, or will require some players to drop off the team for "medical reasons". You didn't think the SEC got where it is today by playing the recruiting game the way other conferences do, did you? Ethics are for suckers.
