Coastal Division Champs Thread #2

RE: Coastal Division Champs Thread #2

I heard some of these on local sports radio today.

1. Why are people bum-hurt over UNC's claim, which is factually correct
2. This is just a recruiting ploy (Which I stated in another thread).
3. What UNC did is NOT a violation. They were told that they could not play in the game, but nothing was mentioned about claiming to be Coastal Division Champs!
4. UNC was punished for their violations and are not getting over on the ACC or NCAA by making this claim.
5. People should be making jokes about it instead of getting angry.
6. State has a banner in the PNC celebrating the 1972-1973 Regular Season undefeated team, that could not participate in the NCAA Tournament due to sanctions.

Did State claim any championships for 72-73?

RE: Coastal Division Champs Thread #2

nope...not a State fan, just a fan of history.

Again, you brought it up, so it was hard to tell.

I love history as well. Where did you find the info about Dean Smith and his involvement in the investigation at NCSU?

who knows. The evidence was probably destroyed in one of the many shred parties that go on over in Chaped Hole. But, in the early 70s, who else would have had the power to let the NCAA know that DT was playing in a pick up game or getting free room and board (in a dorm) for a basketball camp? It was certainly not the local media, because we would know how the NCAA found out. Nose knew State was going to be killing his team the next few years, so he had one of his rat assistants get the dirt for him.

I see that tbk is not the only one wearing a tinfoil hat.

It's pretty much widely accepted that Deannose turned State in. Must have been pretty but-hurt over DT going to State.

RE: Coastal Division Champs Thread #2

And the main question I had was, did Carolina give players RINGS for this so-called championship? Because, by rule, they were NOT Coastal Division champs. So giving each player a $1000 (or more?) gold ring should constitute an impermissible benefit.

LOL...pretty much widely accepted by ABC'ers. But, alas, no proof of said involvement.

Sorry.

Don't be sorry. It's just the truth. I am sorry (as usual) that the truth bothers you so much. Go ahead and ask for a link that doesn't exist, and pretend that wins the argument for you. It's what you guys do so well.

LOL...are you mad, Truth...you really sound mad.

Didn't ask for a link, just proof. Not an opinion or an excerpt from DT's book or "pretty much accepted". Just proof.

That is what wins arguments. And, sadly and as usual, you have none.

Tis just the facts.

Maybe it was Bucky Waters!

nope because Duke was on probation for giving DT clothes.

Nose Smith cried to his assistant who had a friend that worked for the NCAA. Nose Smith was a coward, and didn't want NC State and Sloan to be that much more successful than him. It would have tore Nose up if State would have gone back to back because he was such a failure himself at winning NCAA title on his own. He certainly could not win back to back. Hell, he needed Fred Brown and Chris Webber to get him the two he got. Could you imagine how Nose would feel if both Duke and State had back to back titles?

Nose Smith.......Pathetic crybaby who claims he created the most boring offense to ever be played in college basketball. Poor Nose.....cried to the NCAA because State was going to lay the smack down on him. Poor Nose......had aerial photos taken of DT's parents' house.

You really DO know your ACC history. You are dead on.

UNC FANS ARE LIARS and SO ARE THEIR COACHES

+1924.

For the ABC crowd, "I heard it someplace!" usually equates to unassailable truth, as long as it casts dispersions on THe Flagship.

Such is the depth of bitterness and obsession for that crowd.
