    +1924.

For the ABC crowd, "I heard it someplace!" usually equates to unassailable truth, as long as it casts dispersions on THe Flagship.

Such is the depth of bitterness and obsession for that crowd.

LOL...are you mad, Truth...you really sound mad.

Didn't ask for a link, just proof. Not an opinion or an excerpt from DT's book or "pretty much accepted". Just proof.

That is what wins arguments. And, sadly and as usual, you have none.

    Tis just the facts.

Don't be sorry. It's just the truth. I am sorry (as usual) that the truth bothers you so much. Go ahead and ask for a link that doesn't exist, and pretend that wins the argument for you. It's what you guys do so well.

And the main question I had was, did Carolina give players RINGS for this so-called championship? Because, by rule, they were NOT Coastal Division champs. So giving each player a $1000 (or more?) gold ring should constitute an impermissible benefit.

nope because Duke was on probation for giving DT clothes.

Nose Smith cried to his assistant who had a friend that worked for the NCAA. Nose Smith was a coward, and didn't want NC State and Sloan to be that much more successful than him. It would have tore Nose up if State would have gone back to back because he was such a failure himself at winning NCAA title on his own. He certainly could not win back to back. Hell, he needed Fred Brown and Chris Webber to get him the two he got. Could you imagine how Nose would feel if both Duke and State had back to back titles?

Nose Smith.......Pathetic crybaby who claims he created the most boring offense to ever be played in college basketball. Poor Nose.....cried to the NCAA because State was going to lay the smack down on him. Poor Nose......had aerial photos taken of DT's parents' house.

or you can read DT's Skywalker
a little excerpt from the book:
When everything is added up, it makes for a strong case that the Tar Holes acted like a bunch of holes. Not that they'll ever admit it.
"We at Carolina solemnly swear we did not report North Carlina State,' Nose Smith told a reporter for the News and Observer in Charlotte. "I'm tired of being blamed for turning them in, I hear it everywhere, on the streets, everywhere. It is the most widely rumored thing I've heard in North Carolina."
However, Smith did tell the reporter that the NCAA possessed an aerial photo of a truck paving the driveway at my parents' home in Shelby and added that the truck reportedly belonged to an NC State alumnus.
Aerial photograph? Did UNC have a spy plane at its disposal to provide them with an overview of my parents' property? What, no wire transcripts, too? The whole thing was a big joke.
Not to mention that the NCAA investigator happened to be Bill Gutheridge's college roommate. Sure.....nothing to see here.

    The Carolina way.

who knows. The evidence was probably destroyed in one of the many shred parties that go on over in Chaped Hole. But, in the early 70s, who else would have had the power to let the NCAA know that DT was playing in a pick up game or getting free room and board (in a dorm) for a basketball camp? It was certainly not the local media, because we would know how the NCAA found out. Nose knew State was going to be killing his team the next few years, so he had one of his rat assistants get the dirt for him.

I personally couldn't care less. I was just making a point that technically they could be sued. Do I care enough to be bothered with it? No. I don't care if they want to proclaim themselves champions, fine....I just personally think it's laughable...it doesn't bother me that they did it.

My question, though, has not been answered:

  • Lux Libertas Feb 7, 2013
    Sports Legend

I don't view this as a road we want to go down, just becasuse a few ABC'ers are upset and crying (again) about The Flagship.

Technically, state college could also be sued for their little "This is OUR State" slogan. It's most definitely NOT "their" state and never shall be if The Swoff has anything to say about it.

    (Which he does hee hee!)

  • Tizu Feb 7, 2013

I have a question - Does NCSU's banner that hangs claim to be champions of anything during their un-defeated run? Being undefeated is something to be proud of. If it says they are champions of anything, well, it should be taken down as false advertisement, because they were not champions...just as UNC were not "Coastal Division Champions" this past year. They had that right stripped away by cheating. Did they finish at the top of the standings? Yes. Were they acknowledged as champions by anyone other than the university themselves? No.

Pretty clear case if you ask me. Technically, they could be sued for false advertisement.
