USA Today update on Dean Smith
I don't think there's anything new in here, but it just came out on usatoday.com.

RE: USA Today update on Dean Smith
I miss Dean. He was the best basketball coach I have ever seen!
RE: USA Today update on Dean Smith
It is really tough for all those around him. The great coaches remember essentially every play from every game. Think about a coaches show with Woody and Smith (or Guthridge or Williams). Every play so vivid, so alive -- now for Dean, fading from view.

My dad suffers fromn the same thing. It is truley sad to see when a parent doesn't know their children any longer.

Sorry for you, your dad, and your family.
RE: USA Today update on Dean Smith
I had the fortunate pleasure to meet Mr. Smith about 15 years ago, what a great man he is. I was a young 20's something kid doing my job and he talked to me like he had known me for years and was part of his family. There's just something about him that, when you are around him, makes you know there's something special about him...hard to explain. He's just the kind of person that if it wasn't college basketball, he would have made an impact doing something else. It was a brief interlude, but one I'll never forget.
Sorry Ligg

Sorry to hear that! My Mom suffered with it as well, not something I'd want anyone to have to experience.

He will always be #1 to me even if K is my favorite now.

Nice find 903. I respect Dean Smith more than any coach in my lifetime.

Same here Ligg.
Maybe Dean will leave his mark with Alzheimer's research the way V did with cancer and Yow w/breast cancer.
He could team up with Pat Summitt, who has early onset and is only in her 50s I think.

I lost my mother to this. I absolutely would not wish it on my worst enemy. I sincerely hope some manner of cure or preventative can be found soon. No person should have to go "that way".
