The son of former Boston Celtics star Larry Bird was arrested after he allegedly tried to run over his ex-girlfriend with his car.

Conner Bird, 21, was taken into custody by the Indiana University police department Sunday, the Indianapolis Star reported.

Bird and his ex-girlfriend, who has not been identified, allegedly got into a fight at his apartment, police say. Bird then reportedly threw a cellphone at the alleged victim.

Police say Bird took the victim to a parking lot to talk things over, but they got into another argument. The victim then reportedly got out of the car, leading Bird to attempt to hit her with his car twice, the Indianapolis Star reported.

A witness took the victim to the Indiana University police department, the paper reported. Bird reportedly faces multiple preliminary charges, including battery with injury, criminal mischief, intimidation with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana.

I don't think we care much about Larry Birds son. Larry will take care of his son and MJ will take of his.

at least larry wasn't with him. i think that dook ad's are usually involed in the crime with their son.

I hate it for Larry Bird's family members, and his son. I also hated to hear about MJ's son too. It's like other families all around us, everyday. Hope that young Bird will learn and move forward.

Me too! Hope Larry Legend's son gets it together. No guy/girl is worth ruining your life over. Too many fish in the sea.

I always feel bad for kids of legendary athletes. First, they are raised solely by mom because dad was never home. But if they don't become legends themselves, everyone asks 'what happened to bird or mj's kid? why couldn't he succeed with all the resources and genes?' No one takes into account that they have an enormous amount of pressure to do what their dad did or be considered a failure and that they have to go through this without a normal support system.

Solid writing. Not many super-stars have kids that can even come close to what they did. There may be a few, but not many. The nurturing wasn't there all too often.
