As I've stated on other threads, the only way any ACC team beats the U is for someone to catch them on an off night while having their best game of the year.

Battling. I will pick three teams. Miami, Duke, and UVA to contend for Championship. UNC doesn't play a complete game. No intensity for 40 minutes. Roy has proven that he can't get this out of his team. Lessor talent from UVA will surprise a few.

http://www.dailypress.com/sports/teel-blog/dp-teel-time-uva-unc-rpi,0,149869.story As of Friday, North Carolina was 34th on the RPI, Virginia 80th. But that by no means indicates the Tar Heels (16-8, 6-5 ACC) are locks for the 68-team field, or that the Cavaliers (18-6, 8-3) are locked out.

Even though North Carolina is 46 spots ahead of Virginia on the RPI, the latter's resume compares favorably.

The Tar Heels are 1-6 against the top 25 and top 50. They are 4-7 against the top 100.

The Cavaliers are 1-0 versus the top 25, 2-0 versus the top 50 and 6-0 versus the top 100.
But now consider their schedules. Carolina has played Miami twice and Duke once, dropping all three games. Virginia has yet to play either of the ACC's top two teams.

The Tar Heels' non-conference schedule is No. 120, the Cavaliers' No. 323. Moreover, Virginia defeated Carolina head-to-head.

Reporters at the mock selection - I participated in 2008 and hope to again -- chose the Cavaliers for the field and not the Tar Heels. Seems fair, given the incomplete data available.

With Virginia a solid third in the ACC standings, some Cavaliers faithful have suggested to me that there's no way the committee can bypass the ACC's No. 3. The seasons are not identical, but 2000 says otherwise.

Carolina did not suffer a "beat down" by Duke. At Miami, yes, but @ Duke, no. I do agree that both teams are fighting their way off the NCAA bubble and into the NCAAT, though, and this is a very important game for Carolina. How the Heels fare in this game will be very telling, IMHO. Will there be a letdown after they gave their all against Duke, or will they come out fighting again? I'm hoping it's the later.

Good post. UVA has one of the best young coaches anywhere in Div I. Their defense was 2nd in the Country a few weeks ago according to some from ESPN. They have a blue collar work ethic. They are a dangerous team. I wouldn't bet against them even playing at UNC. UVA needs a road win to solidify this team right now.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-dagger/interpretive-dance-yes-virginia-hope-large-bid-142606575--ncaab.html1. Virginia at North Carolina
For a pair of teams with sketchy resumes, Saturday's tango could be a play-in game of sorts. The Cavs are breathing down Duke's neck for second-place in the ACC, but need another substantive road win to help overcome its early-season missteps against weak opponents. Carolina is in a similar boat. Its top-30 SOS is at-large worthy, but with only one RPI top-50 win and off a beat-down at the hands of Duke, Roy Williams' club has entered must-win territory. Bland offensively in league play, the Heels, off a hard-to-swallow loss at Duke, will likely succumb to Tony Bennett's constrictive, top-15 defense, especially if James Michael McAdoo remains encased in ice. Win and the Cavs may finally be in.
Prediction: Virginia 67 North Carolina 64

Like someone else said...two teams playing for their NCAA tourney lives. Carolina is at home where they have only lost to Miami this year. They'll feed off the crowd and beat UVA 68-64.
