MJ and Dean Smith are the ultimate picture of UNC-CH. Two of the greatest that ever played and coached this beautiful game. MJ taught the NBA players how to play with desire, confidence, and the blue hot flame of intense desire. Dean Smith set the protocol that ALL coaches have followed. Dean Smith is still my all-time favorite coach because he coached his players long after they graduated or left UNC. No one can touch his legacy.

MJ will always be an iconic figure. So many of today's players grew up looking up to MJ as their idol and pretended to be him as they shot baskets in their driveway. For all his faults, he loves and appreciates Dean, and I'll never forget the half time ceremony at a Heels game where MJ bent down and kissed the top of Dean's head. There's far more good to MJ than bad, and I'm proud and glad that he's a Tar Heel.

Troll King in Badger clothing. You did exactly what you wanted to do. Don't try to act all pious and remorseful, it just does not fit. I know it's just eating you up with envy that the greatest basketball player ever is, and always will be...A TAR HEEL!!! Wait right there, Dr. Feelgood is sending over some HOF Ointment for that massive outbreak of EnvyChap.

OK. TBK. Now tell us how you really feel about MJ from UNC-CH.

I read these all the way. MJ is the ultimate player when players didn't even have a grasp of his next move. He and Larry Bird are my all-time favorites. MJ played for my all-time favorite coach too. Long live Dean Smith. Dean taught coaches how to coach.

Michael Jordan is a sorry piece of trash. He only won so much because he was in the NBA at the right time to face weak competition (Larry Bird's Celtics dynasty ending, ditto with Magic's Lakers), such as Reggie Miller, Penny Hardaway, and John Starks. Jordan in his prime wouldn't stand a chance in today's NBA.

He needs to stop using the Bobcats as a tax shelter, or some other scummy money-laundering front - just sell your shares, step down, and f_ck off somewhere.

Agreed, Smitty. Jordan is the best NBA player of all-time and Phil Jackson is the best as well. No argument from me. :)

Loved MJ even though he was a Hole. I will never forget get how excited I was when he came back on that Sunday afternoon against the Pacers.

Great interview and stories by Craig Ehlo about his struggles trying to defend MJ. I found it enjoyable and I don't even like MJ, so you all should find it a worthwhile read.

Let's see...I'll take his bank, buy the course, kick everyone off, and buy a team for fun. I will say I am surprised at how poorly he has performed as an owner. Heck, I think many a fan on here could do just as good if not better. I guess it's the "I am the best and let me show you" which which made him a legend that most likely keeps him from realizing in some areas, he is not. I guess when you can blow money like he does and it not hurt him at the Stockholders Meeting, you can afford to not be great at NBA ownership. I do think he is doing better putting the pieces in place and I like the new coach.

Yep. Best player ever in the NBA who was coached by one of the greatest, and in my humble Tar Heel opinion, coached by the greatest. Now, bring on the Dookies who will only look at Ws and Ls, and bring on the Wooden lovers and the Rupp worshipers. For my money, Dean was the best COACH ever because he was not solely focused on the win, but those were different times. I know one fact, K will never have a winning record against Dean.

Thompson was a better college player, but MJ toiled away in the Dean Smith system, biding his time, and sacrificed immediate scoring glory for the skills to excel at the NBA level and beyond. The HOF's biggest section is MJs, with one right next to it for Dean. The rest of the credit goes to Phil Jackson, who finetuned MJ into the assassin he became, and MJ turned Phil into the Zen master of basketball coaching.
