    The Taproot
doesn't "do" application forms for Chancellor, Derpy.

Line one of the application form for the next UNC chancellor will be:

    1. Can you keep a secret?

I see that some fans from UNC have risen up tonight. Fans. I see how some UNC graduates have taken the lessor road of late. I still wish the best for UNC to hire someone outside this system. I also would like for UNC to re-visit the findings of our former Governor Jim Martin. He made it even worse for UNC. No way he should have lead any committee for UNC. This is a huge black eye for UNC. The media has run with this one. I hope that the total picture will come to the fore soon. UNC gave this job to a former Governor. Pitiful thinking.

Ah yes but it certainly takes "ballzzs" to hide behind a computer screen and spout off about topics on which you know so very little, huh? What a joke.

You don't even know where the Triad is...why should people put any stock in what you say about Holden Thorp?

That was Thorp's claim to fame when he was a youngster. He didn't do anything at UNC except fire Davis and John Blake after the BOG fired down on his ar... He looked the other way when it came down to the esteemed AA Studies program. He was in charge of this program before he became the esteemed Chancellor. He's not much when it comes down to having some ballzzs. Wishing him the best away from UNC. He's still a highly intelligent person, but it didn't do him much good after bowing out at UNC. He simply doesn't have the "stuff" to deliver.

You damm right. I have been kind to Holden Thorp. He got this job because of huge contributors from his family. Maybe when he's 60 he will grow a pair. Like you stated earlier, he hasn't shown much yet. Courage begins when you are raised up. He was a little rich kid with his toys of the day. Never played anthing except a chess game probably. He didn't have the intestional fortitude to handle this job. His rubic cube deal is his fame.

I hope that UNC will go totally away from the University and hire someone without all of this nepotism.

I have changed my attitude about UNC lately because of some fans from UNC. They claim this or that... I doubt most never darkened the doors of the school house gate at UNC nor ANY other school. Still, they know more about sports than some of us that played and coached. They write and attract those just like themselves.

Yea. I was kinda giving him the benefit of doubt and wondered if his wife could coach him upward. He never should have been given this job. His family tree has given huge bucks to UNC. He knew all about the mess under his charge. He thought that if others didn't touch it; he wouldn't either. He was in charge of the AFAM Department when his good friend gave it away like candy. Back when this story hit, I did state that he couldn't run a large high school.

Thorp loves to research and teach. Some thrive in these two areas. Some are leaders that can figure out weaknesses of a elementary, MC, high school, or a major University. You have to take a stand and challenge things... and most of all personnel. I look to see him grow and learn to get back to a strong leadership position one day. He's young.

Totally correct. Thorp was once upon a time the Head of said Department. He looked the other way just like those before him. He didn't act in a prudent manner. He didn't pull the trigger to solve it. This was his major downfall. He's a highly intelligent person. He simply was not equipped to handle of of this. He didn't grab the bull and some didn't have enough stuff either to even pressure him to take this animal out of the curricula.

I thought it had to do with the enormous academic scandal that has been looming over the entire university for awhile now. And I was right.

  • StunGunn Feb 19, 2013

Rats? I'd hardly call Chancellor Thorp a "rat". He is collateral damage from the athletic/academic mess he inherited when he took the job. I think Thorp is a good man who had no idea what he was going to face, and he wasn't prepared to deal with a scandal that was probably already in place long before he ever took office. This is Carolina's loss.

  • VT1994Hokie Feb 18, 2013
    Sports Legend

Thorp didn't have many choices in this one. He would have been a distraction to a great University. I don't like how he handled this situation with Butch Davis, and the many cheating so called football players either. He got the job by rich people. He was in over his head. UNC did a great thing in finally giving him a nudge out. I only care because of some close friends and graduates of this great University. He can start all over again.

I have all ideas roy will be gone June first. NO body want to face the music that will be playing in june. No body wants to be associated with a school that lost its accreditation, that is a real low blow. that is why Thop is abandoning ship now. He is a lot of things but stupid is not one of them. His retirement is tied to the NC state teachers association. He wants to come back some where in the state system. That you can take to the bank. however in this state if you are convicted of a felony you forfeit your retirement to the state. That might be why he is changing his address.
