The article was referring to the
University of NC system (i.e., the public university system) as the "Taproot." It was not referring to the UNC-Chapel Hill campus specifically.

You linked the article and actually quoted the part that explains they are talking about the UNC system. This includes schools other than UNC, such as UNCW, UNCG, etc.
