Talent and HOF coaching wins games! Conspiracies are for losers and their fanbases who don't take responsibility for their situation. By the way of course you don't like the charge call. Teams with great teachers of the game get that call because they work on it. That would leave State out since they don't work hard and certainly dont have a great coach!

They were probably lickin' their chops when they heard K's Carolina-hating #1 boy Hess was assigned to the game. Didn't do them any good, though.

Tonight's games really stunk. Needed both losing teams to win tonight. Carolina beating Clemson was no surprise (with or without Hess). But I thought Duke would get up for Virginia. Turns out it was the other way around.

Clemson saw Karl Hess walk out on the floor and they just mailed it in. They knew the fix was already in before the game even tipped off. :)

Ole Swoffy sat back, made some henchmen kiss his pinky ring, and told them to send the Hess. No way they were going to let Carolina lose this one. Turned out, they didn't even need him. Clemson stunk it up good tonight!

I appreciate the honesty in regard to Roy. Loads of coaches know more than Roy; some just can't recruit like Roy. Coach K, Pitinio, Tubby Smith, Self, Calapari, know how to recruit and know they to draw it up vs Roy. Happy Birthday to Dean. My all-time favorite coach.

It became painfully obvious prior to entering conference play that ALL of UNC's remaining games were going to be tuff. In particular, the two freshmen big guys weren't going to be true difference makers.

Me neither! (betting, that is). Someone was talking about that on the Duke/UVA game thread (or a thread where that topic was brought up). UVA is a one point favorite!

As for tonight's game, slowing Carolina down and making them play the half court game has always been their Kryptonite, and that was with some really good UNC teams. That's how they were beaten in the past. As for rebounding, that could be an issue: I think State out-rebounded Carolina last Saturday. This small lineup isn't the rebounding machine that Carolina teams typically are.

PS How long do you have to keep the UNC part of your avatar? Blue is a good color for the Badger:)

Hellz, no! :) I'm expecting a very tough game. No cakewalk, for sure. I don't think there's a such thing as an easy road win this year. Look at Miami @ Wake. While I thought someone would beat Miami, I didn't think it would be Wake.

You're lucky you can sit back and enjoy the show tonight! I'll be biting my nails down to nubs:)

Yep, Clemson slows everybody down. I don't think Clemson is really better than Virginia or Miami (not even close). But when a team can slow the game down to a speed that their opponent is not comfortable with, anything can happen. Carolina is one of those uptempo teams. How they perform without fast break opportunities will determine the winner. If Clemson is missing and Carolina is rebounding, then they'll get fast break opportunities. But Carolina is playing a small lineup, so will the rebounding be there?

Could be interesting. I sure wouldn't bet on this game!

No, especially when games are 5-6 weeks apart. It could be very different lineups. But Clemson (well, almost every ACC team) is tougher at home than on the road. You can't walk in and expect an easy win (I know you aren't doing that, JG!)

That's fair. It should be a good game, I would think. State was the better team, too, against Clemson, and it took a Scott Wood three at the buzzer to beat them in their house.

That's exactly what I expect Clemson to attempt: to slow down the tempo and take away the transition game - Carolina's bread and butter. Carolina will have to overcome that to win. Brownell knows that. And so does Roy.

Clemson had something to do with Miami's performance. They were suffocating on defense and didn't allow either team to get sucked into an uptempo game. Exactly what they would have to do to beat UNC.

Duke, Miami, and State (at the time of the game at the PNC), were the top ACC teams, and UVA was known to be tough at home. I don't think Clemson is in that category. Not saying this game is a gimmie by any means, but I still think Carolina has a good chance to win.

Yep - you can sit back, eat popcorn and enjoy the game while I'll be sweating it out:)

I don't think you can't really do the "if Team A beat Team B"..., thing - that doesn't transfer over to basketball, usually. And Miami was starting to look mortal when they played Clemson, I think.

  • FourAutumn Feb 28, 2013

  • FourAutumn Feb 28, 2013

And they've only lost to Duke, State and Miami.

So they are 3-3 in the ACC on the road.

I fully expect a tough game, but the FSU, and I think the BC games weren't played with Roy's new "small ball" lineup. The Heels are playing with more conifdence now, and Paige has grown a lot. They did pretty well against GT, the most recent game with Roy's new lineup. Carolina is the better team, and the better team doesn't always play better on the road, but I'm expecting the Heels to squeak out the win.

But Carolina is on the road tonight.

Going all the way back to their first REAL road game against legit D-1 competition, they've only beaten FSU, GT and BC on the road. And not all that impressively, either.

This game is certainly winnable for the Holes, but Clemson can be tough at home.

Clemson recently pushed Miami to the brink, only blowing the game in the final seconds and losing by 2. Remember what happened the last time Carolina played Miami? :)
