Roy's zero tolerance policy in action...

    http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9880179/unc-tar-heels-hold-jp-tokoto-exhibition-game

[i] CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina sophomore J.P. Tokoto, who sat out the "secret scrimmage" against Vanderbilt on Sunday, will miss the Nov. 1 exhibition game against UNC Pembroke for his unapproved participation in summer league games in Milwaukee.

Tokoto will be available to play in the season opener Nov. 8 against Oakland.

UNC coach Roy Williams is still unclear on how many games junior P.J. Hairston will miss. Williams also revealed Friday night that the NCAA will have a say on senior Leslie McDonald's status.

The NCAA presumably will determine either player received impermissible benefits stemming from incidents that took place this summer.

Hairston was linked to convicted felon Haydn "Fats" Thomas after a June arrest for marijuana possession and driving without a license. Those charges were later dismissed, but Thomas reportedly rented the truck Hairston was driving at the time.

McDonald's image was used to promote a brand of designer mouthpieces that prompted a cease-and-desist letter from the university to the company. McDonald could face discipline if it is determined he somehow benefited.

"They're (the NCAA) going to be part of it, yeah. The rumors have been going around since June," Williams said. "We've been addressing those. It's the kind of thing where there (are) still things in process with P.J. and Leslie both."

Williams said Tokoto played in a sanctioned league but failed to complete the necessary paperwork before competing in two games. Upon learning of his mistake, Williams said the correct forms were turned in and he was sanctioned to continue playing.

"He hadn't realized he'd make a mistake," Williams said. "We suggested, we said what we'd like to do with the NCAA is hold him out the scrimmage and hold him out the exhibition game, and they agreed and said everything was fi

Gald to see that Roy is being pro-active by suggesting to the NCAA to sit Tokoto out a game......and of course they agree. Probably overkill but thats just Roy!

We're rejoicing not having to wait on the NCAA to determine when our players can play since we don't have players getting suspended for breaking rules left and right...

Dook will make the NIT like highly ranked Kentucky last season.

    Sad.

Bragging about cover-ups - the Duke Way.

cover-ups is the Carolina Way. Duke's way is not "breaking rules left and right..." as I said earlier...

Tokoto's infraction was a matter of him not filling out the paperwork for a SANCTIONED game. It was corrected and reported, and I think handled properly. This doesn't begin to compare to PJ's situation. In this case, I think Roy's and Carolina's actions were appropriate.

Agree entirely. Things must be put in perspective. I see no problem with what Tokota did and nothing other than correcting paperwork should be required. PJ's story is much more blatant and strangely enough is actually more about Roy than PJ. It shows Roy's hypocrisy after proclaiming a zero tolerance policy. He obviously is more concerned with winning games than helping PJ correct his personality flaws.

I know this doesn't come close to the impermissible benefits issues of the other two. I'm just wondering what Roy suggested to the NCAA as a possible punishment for them and also wondering why the NCAA was so quick in this case but are so slow on the other two (especially with opening night around 2 weeks away)...
