You have to excuse State fans, they did not expect their 0-for ACC streak to continue with basketball season.

So is the sponsor lying about being disappointed with the attendance?

I'm disappointed with the lack of help from an available salesclerk when I go to Belk.

    Guess that makes us even.

Sad indeed, but accurate for sure.

I was at the game and there were UNC fans everywhere. The concert with Blake Shelton was packed and UNC fans were definitely in the majority everywhere. I stayed at the Residence Inn across the street from the stadium and probably 80% of the occupants were wearing Tarheel blue.
Sad to see folks trying to cause problems with us that either did not have a bowl or blew the one they had by choking.

I was at the game, and UNC outnumbered Cincy 10 to 1 in the stands. If Belk Bowl attendance was low, it's because Cincy fans didn't want to come to Charlotte 2 years in a row. GO HEELS!!

What is there to be embarrassed about? How many people went to a football game? Seriously, you think I should be personally embarrassed? Get real.

There are things I might be embarrassed about personally or as a Carolina alum, but some faux outrage being pushed by some anonymous pipsqueak isn't one of those things.

... well they thought all that Panther blue would cover up the usually vacant aluminum, but the reality of the turnstiles just doesn't lie like a Heel fan.

Personally I thought the Heel attendance pretty stout, but there is always room for more in a stadium that big. Since the Red Riding Hoods are on here complaining, maybe they can send the bowl split check back to the Belkie officials so they don't compromise their high standards for attendance...

and, they certainly couldn't have been too enamored by their 6-6 opponent... clearly their team took the week off.

    why not their fans, too???

bottom line- unc had a chance to FILL IT UP, and couldn't get it done.

    NCSU > unc yet again.

Cincinnati's average home attendance is about on a par with Wake Forest and Duke. It's possible their small fan base wasn't excited about returning to Charlotte after being there so recently.

After Belk Inc became the new title sponsor, they increased the bowl payout from $1.3 mil to $1.7 mil per team making the Belk Bowl the 14th highest payout out of 30 bowls excluding the 5 BCS games. The Charlotte Sports Foundation considered their initial 2011 game a success as 58,427 attended the NC State / Louisville game. In 2012, the Duke / Cinn attendance dipped to 48,128. When teams were reviewed for the 2013 bowl UNC touted their large Charlotte fan base. After selecting UNC, Belk was expecting at least 53,000 especially since the game was scheduled for mid-afternoon Saturday. Bowl officials were surprised when only 45,211 attended making it the 2nd lowest attended game in Charlotte's 12 year bowl history. Adding a SEC team to future Belk Bowls is being considered.
