Sources: Withers to join coaching staff at Ohio State

Posted December 13, 2011

— WRAL has confirmed that University of North Carolina interim head coach Everett Withers will join the coaching staff at Ohio State.

Withers, who will remain with the Tar Heels through the Independence Bowl on Dec. 26, has been a candidate to join Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer's staff since Meyer's hire in November.

Meyer told WBNS radio Tuesday that Withers is "in the picture" at Ohio State but would not say anything was official yet. Withers has served as a defensive coordinator at North Carolina, Minnesota and Louisville.

Meyer has officially named two assistants, Luke Fickell and Tom Herman. Fickell will take a defensive coordinator title and Tom Herman is the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach. Withers would likely take a co-defensive coordinator position with Fickell.

I think they didnt hire him at unc has a lot to do with ticket sales. Bubba said he wanted a high powered explosive offence that scored a lot of points which fits Fedora's plan more so than Withers. And i also agree that they want a clean slate to start the next season. Withers did a good job considering all the bs he walked into and i wish him nothing but the best.

What is sad is you can't tell the difference between OBVIOUS smack talk and intelligent conversation. And keep calling me names like loser and "little boy". It only lets me know I'm getting to you, and also that you don't have much in your arsenal to come at me with, so you resort to name calling. That gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

I feel like I'm having a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. Which is why I just ignore you most of the time.

Where I am SURE he will enjoy whipping the boys from UNC just a little bit....

Congrats to coach Withers, he did for unc exactly what was needed....he held down the fort until reinforcements arrived. I'm sure he'll do well at osu. Perhaps someday he'll return to the acc as a head coach.

Ohio is lucky to get this man -- he took the broken program at UNC and fixed it the best he could ! You State fans are pathetic -- if you'd have gotten the grades and were academically sound -- you could have gone to UNC too !! Be happy where you are - that's where you belong - worry about your own problems - you've got them too ! And your foolish if you think you don't --- Congrats Coach Withers !!!

He'll be just fine at OSU so long as they tape his mouth shut before the Michigan game. lol

Glad to see Withers picked up and given a chance. OSU will not be sorry and it just add to the resume. Faced a lot of hurdles and didn't clear all of them, but I think he did a commendable job and persevered through it a lot better than I think a lot of critics thought he would, it just didn't show in the form of W's and that's what it comes down to. Hope for nothing but the best for him and his family, his new players will enjoy having him.
