Chapel Hill, N.C. — North Carolina junior defensive end Donte Paige-Moss has notified the school of his intention to enter the NFL Draft, according to a UNC official.

Paige-Moss, who posted 29 tackles, two sacks and four tackles for loss in a backup role in 2011, tore the ACL in his right knee during the Independence Bowl last week.

The Jacksonville, N.C. native had his biggest year in 2010, starting 12 games and recording 49 tackles, 13.5 tackles for losses of 77 yards and 7.0 sacks.

Paige-Moss was a five-star recruit and All-American out of high school, but made headlines with a couple off-the-field issues during his freshman year. A month after enrolling in 2009, he was charged with misdemeanor simple assault following an altercation with a teammate, though the charge was dropped and he was disciplined internally. In the 2009 regular season finale against NC State, a post-game altercation led to him being suspended by then-head coach Butch Davis for the team's bowl game.

He entered 2011 on preseason watch lists for the Bednarik Award and the Nagurski Award -- both national honors presented to the nation's top defensive football player -- but sophomore Kareem Martin emerged from preseason camp atop the depth chart at his defensive end position.

good luck kid - dunno about about the "lack of support" to which you refer but you certainly haven't earn much respect - or engendered any warm fuzzy feelings with your behavior (or lack thereof) and poor sportsmanship. Get a thicker skin or toughen-up and earn some more of those wins if you don't like being the goat. Yeah - fans heap on the praise when things are going well and act poorly when they aren't - this isn't a new thing bud. Regardless of whether you felt supported or hated by the fans, the reality is you and your team fell short of expectations (even if they were overly inflated) - had you handled that with some grace and dignity then you would not be getting the reaction you are now. If you had issue with the way the coaches dealt with you this year and the roll you played then there are ways of presenting those arguments with tact - these tweets however just make you look bitter and foolish IMO.

Well, even if he makes it to the NFL or not, he's still had more of an athletic career than all of you losers posting here.

Yep. Said it the other day about the value of the Independence Bowl, Fedora reviewed the tape, made a list, checked it twice, and told the naughty to move along and the nice that he looked forward to coaching them. The choices given to the naughty most likely include: quit, transfer, go to the NFL, or get your azz straightened out and the leash is awfully short. Met Fedora and some of the staff last night as well have read up on some of them. Energy, enthusiasm, motivated, and no BS will be tolerated.

DPM will be given opportunities to clean up his image and straighten his life out, the question is if and when he will take that opportunity. As I said, I wish him tremendous success as I do with all young men and women.

wow this guy really is a box of rocks. With a bum knee following a meidocre season he thinks anyone in the NFL is going to draft him. Wow.

At least he will have his education to fall back on when his football career is over.
