Chapel Hill, N.C. — Carolina baseball star Colin Moran is a very intense player, but after a loss to NC State this year Moran took that to the extreme, breaking his hand punching a door.
And that mistake caused the sophomore to miss the next 21 games.
It was frustrating, just cause it was self inflicted. I kinda had a lot of time to think about it but it was good too cause I learned a lot," said Moran.
The Tar Heels went 13-and-8 without Moran, who’s the team’s best hitter, with him, they’re 22-and-5.
His return has been a much needed boost for head coach Mike Fox’s team.
"It's meant we got our best hitter back, now our three hole guy, our presence, our RBI guy," said Fox.
Yeah it was definitely a big life lesson, I think I've always done kinda little things like that but after doing that and breaking my hand it's definitely taught me a big lesson. I definitely learned the hard way.
"You know I think sitting over here watching for three weeks, I think in the long run, it'll probably help Colin's career. That's what this game will teach you more than anything else, you fail more than you succeed," said Fox. "I think that's why it's such a great game it does teach those life lessons that you have to stay under control and it's the hardest part for anyone to do."
Moran was the top freshman in college baseball last season and the Tar Heels are happy to have him back, and healthy, after learning a big lesson.

RE: Moran back after breaking hand
Judging by the cause of the broken hand, the first word in the headline could have the a replaced with another o.

I'm a Heels fan, but when I read how he broke it, I thought about Amare Stoudemire (I know there's a HUGE difference between a professional making millions and a college player). I understand his frustration, but he hurt his team. Still, he's a good kid and I'm glad he's back.
