Chapel Hill, N.C. — University of North Carolina director of athletics Bubba Cunningham announced the hiring of two new staff members – Senior Associate Athletic Director Vince Ille and Associate Athletic Director Paul Pogge, Wednesday.
Ille (pronounced ILL-ee) comes to UNC from the University of Illinois, where he worked since 1998. He was initially hired at Illinois as assistant athletic director for compliance and has served as an associate and senior associate AD since 2003. He supervised 11 varsity sports, coordinated the department’s strategic planning, risk management and quality control, advised the director of athletics on compliance matters and was the school’s first representative to the Big Ten Network, among other duties.

Pogge (pronounced POE-gee) was an associate and assistant athletic director for strategic planning and partnerships at the University of Denver for the past three years.
“Chancellor (Holden) Thorp and I have been discussing ways to further integrate academics, compliance and athletics and I believe the additions of Vince and Paul will position us to accomplish these goals,” says Cunningham.
“Our primary objective is to better coordinate the communication and oversight that exists with Athletics, the College of Arts and Sciences and the University administration,” says Cunningham.
Ille’s and Pogge’s primary responsibilities will be in compliance and student-athlete services, however both will assist in the administration of sports programs.

Ille is a 1985 graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He earned his master’s in sports management at the University of Massachusetts in 1990. Prior to joining the staff at Illinois he worked in compliance at Oklahoma and spent six years as an assistant athletic director for compliance and student services at the University of Cincinnati.
Pogge will assist in coordinating student-athlete eligibility, the NCAA’s Academic Progress rankings, risk assessment and summer camp activities. He earned a finance degree from Notre Dame in 2006 and his law degree from his alma mater in 2009.
After a stint with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, Pogge began a three-year tenure at the University of Denver. He worked with the director of athletics on the school’s move to the Western Athletic Conference and the hockey program’s move to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, served as the athletic department’s liaison to the university’s counsel’s office, implemented various fundraising, marketing and licensing initiatives, and co-wrote the department’s strategic plan, among other duties.

Let's face it people, for some UNC will never be able to do enough to satisfy them. Fortunately satisfying those people is not one of Bubba's goals.

Amen. It's amazing how obsessed the State crowd is with this stuff. A large portion of the articles on Statefansnation is focused on UNC. It's one thing to have bloggers writing this stuff, but when a website supposedly devoted to NC State athletics spends this much time focusing on their rival, it's hard not to describe it as anything other than OBSESSION! Pitiful really...

Obsession is unc fans commenting on state fans who are commenting on articles. Prolly 90% of unc posts are exactly that. That is obsession, fool...

No, I believe I said State websites WRITING articles about UNC is my definition of obsession. Where is the UNC website writing articles about State? Not fan comments or blogs, but articles by web sites.

Don't know why everyone keeps saying everybody else is obsessed. I loathe unc-CHeat, the town, everything about the school, their students, their alumni and I really hate their fans. You know the ones that defend unc-CHeat to the death but never graduated high school. He**, I even hate the color blue. I have a lot of love in my life, but none of it has anything to do with unc-CHeat. Call me obsessed if you will. I graduated from NC State-hold two degrees from the Wolfpack. I absolutely love anything NC State. Watching unc-CHeat squirm in this pool of lies over the past 3 summers have been the most beautiful gift I could have ever asked!

RE: UNC adds two to sports compliance staff
Its a start, but what bubba really needs to do is clean house and get a fresh start over there. This has been going on for decades and the deep rooted attitudes concerning cheating need to be done away with once and for all. The culture is so bad over there that they signed up guys for fake classes while the NCAA was on campus investigating them! How does that happen overnight? It doesn't.
