Chapel Hill, N.C. —
University of North Carolina junior linebacker Darius Lipford injured his left ACL during a rehab session on Thursday and will undergo reconstructive surgery that will require him to miss the 2012 season.
Lipford, a native of Lenoir, N.C., originally injured the knee in the Independence Bowl vs. Missouri on Dec. 26, 2011. Surgery is scheduled for August.
Lipford will redshirt this season and have two years of eligibility remaining. Lipford started four games at outside linebacker in 2011 and made 42 tackles.
