Chapel Hill, N.C. — The University of North Carolina men’s basketball team will play Mississippi State in UNC’s opening game of the championship round at the 2012 EA Sports Maui Invitational hosted by Chaminade University.
The Tar Heels and Bulldogs are slated to play at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday, November 19th, at the Lahaina Civic Center. The winner of that game plays the winner of Butler and Marquette.
Chaminade, Illinois, Southern California and Texas are on the other side of the eight-team bracket.
The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 21st, at 10 p.m. Eastern.
The Tar Heels open play in the event by hosting Florida Atlantic at the Smith Center on Sunday, November 11.
This is Carolina’s sixth appearance in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Tar Heels won the title under head coach Roy Williams in 2004-05 and 2008-09 and under head coach Bill Guthridge in 1999-2000 and finished second in 1989-90 and 1995-96.
Carolina last played Mississippi State on March 20, 2010, in Starkville, Miss. The Tar Heels defeated the Bulldogs, 76-74, in the second round of the NIT.
