The University of North Carolina men’s basketball team will play Mississippi State in UNC’s opening game of the championship round at the 2012 EA Sports Maui Invitational hosted by Chaminade University.

The Tar Heels and Bulldogs are slated to play at 6 p.m. Eastern on Monday, November 19th, at the Lahaina Civic Center. The winner of that game plays the winner of Butler and Marquette. More Info     North Carolina Logo More UNC Stories

Chaminade, Illinois, Southern California and Texas are on the other side of the eight-team bracket.

The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 21st, at 10 p.m. Eastern.

The Tar Heels open play in the event by hosting Florida Atlantic at the Smith Center on Sunday, November 11.

This is Carolina’s sixth appearance in the EA Sports Maui Invitational. The Tar Heels won the title under head coach Roy Williams in 2004-05 and 2008-09 and under head coach Bill Guthridge in 1999-2000 and finished second in 1989-90 and 1995-96.

Carolina last played Mississippi State on March 20, 2010, in Starkville, Miss. The Tar Heels defeated the Bulldogs, 76-74, in the second round of the NIT.

Every school has courses like African Studies, they are just called something else. NCSU is called rebuilding tractor engines or West Virgina is called how to make moon shine. My point is, every school has a certain course or courses that are easier to pass for student athletes.

RE: Tar Heels open Maui against Mississippi St.

Just read that the 1992 UNC National Champs team starters had 4 of 5 with a Major in African Studies. That was the first year of the program and it is strange that so many people migrated to a new program so quickly. Appears Dean Smith may be more involved than Old Roy or Butch, but it also appears this mess has been going on for a very long time.

Like this doesn't happen at every college around the country. Tell me that you didn't have a course like this where you went to school.

The haters in out in force. You know it's always going to be a good year when Dook and State fans pay more attention to the Heels than they do their own team.
