Fedora's team meets fans Saturday

Chapel Hill, N.C. — The "Meet the Heels" event – a combination practice, pep rally and autograph session is Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. at Kenan Stadium on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Fans can get on the field, gather trading cards and posters, enjoy kids' activities and get the signatures of players and coaches. Concession stands and restrooms will be open during the event.

North Carolina practiced for the first time Friday under new head football coach Larry Fedora.

Even though NCAA penalties prevent the Tar Heels from playing in a bowl or for the ACC Championship in 2012, the players were quick to say they'll focus on the 12 regular season games on the schedule.

They picked up the pace quickly on Day 1, as the began to adjustment to Fedora's high-octane system.

The Tar Heels are stocked on offense. They return starting quarterback Bryn Renner, whose quarterback rating put him among the 10 best in the NCAA last season, and Giovani Bernard, whose 1,000 yard rushing in 2011 was the first for UNC in more than 10 years.

How well they adapt to their new coach could determine how many of those regular season games the Tar Heels can hang in the win column.
