North Carolina will begin the ACC season at the bottom of the standings after its 85-78 loss to Boston College Sunday afternoon.
The Heels got 21 points and nine rebounds from Tyler Hansbrough, but Tyrese Rice and Rakim Sanders combined for 47 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the Eagles' win.
Carolina trailed by six at halftime, the first time they trailed at intermission all season, and fell behind by as many as 15 in the second half before mounting a comeback.
A Hansbrough free throw made it 82-78, but that was as close as Carolina would get.
The Heels need to regroup quickly or they might find themselves starting the conference season 0-2 - Carolina plays the undefeated Wake Forest Demon Deacons in its next conference tilt.
