After holding a 54-40 lead in the second half, it looked as though Carolina was going to watlz to it's ninth win in a row.
It turned out however, that the Heels needed some more late-game heroics from Ty Lawson. Leading by one with less than ten second left in the game and less than five on the shot clock, the junior guard hit a three from the wing that clinched a 69-65 win for the North Carolina.
The 5-foot-11 point guard led the Heels with 21 points, including 5-8 from beyond the three-point line, on a night when Tyler Hansbrough scored only eight points.
Jack McClinton was spectacular in a losing effort, scoring 35 of the Hurricanes' 65 points on the evening.
