The Tar Heels have put themselves in position for another ACC regular season championship after going on the road to beat Virginia Tech 86-78 Wednesday night.

Tyler Hansbrough scored 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Heels, who finally put away Virginia Tech after the Hokies kept the game close for more than 35 minutes.

Ty Lawson also had 20 points for Carolina, while adding five assists.

The Hokies were led in scoring by A.D. Vassallo, who had 25 points on 11-21 shooting.

Hansbrough's hard work paid off tonight and got us a win. Lawson played well also. We were lacking in defensive intensity and seemed to be outhustled for much of the game. We were lucky that a few key plays did not happen for VT. If they had ever gotten the lead they probably would have kept it. Why are we content to shoot bricks? Need to go inside more. We are losing our inside game again. That may cost us against Duke. At least the worst that can happen is for us to tie for the lead for regular season. Let's step it up a notch Saturday and beat the Devil's

Happy with the win, but it was a bad performance for the Heels. If they shoot the ball like that Sunday, Duke will roll over them. I hope the cold shooting and mediocre defense is left behind in Blacksburg. Gotta show up big on Sunday. I believe the boys will bring their best on Senior Day. GO HEELS!
