UNC quarterback Mike Paulus addresses spring football

Talking to rising sophomore quarterback Mike Paulus on the first day of Spring Practice ...

Yesterday, Coach Davis said you've had your best couple of months since you've been here at Carolina - could you address that?

"Last year was just a whole life change for me. I obviously had a tough time with the Virginia Tech and Miami games and I don't want that on my name. We always talk about when artists paint a picture they sign their name to it, so when you're on film, you don't want to sign your name to something you don't want people to see. We always say 'put up or shut up,' and it got to the point for me where you can complain all you want, but you've got to go out and do it.

"I just took that attitude with me everywhere I went, whether it was the weight room, throwing session or meetings, to be really enthusiastic, high energy guy and attack it. It wasn't going through the motions ... and I'm getting a lot of results out of it. I'm moving better, I'm a lot smarter and I'm throwing the best I have."

Does that involve swallowing some ego?

"... Every player comes to a point that is their wake-up call, and I don't know if it was my first year or right now, but I know what's expected now. You've got to block the media out, you've got to block out the people who say you stink, stop reading what people are saying about you. For me, I just want to be as good as I can be and I know I can contribute and help us win if I do that."

During your offseason workouts, you got a chance to work with the young wide receiver group, did any of those guys jump out to you?

"Yeah, I think the newest one that would jump out is Josh Adams - I'm sure everyone is going to say that. He's raw, but he'll probably end up being a huge threat for us this year. Him, Mason and Dwight will be competing for that 'X' but I'm sure they will all play

"Todd's looking great and everyone knows about Greg, so we have to wait for the rest of the freshmen to get in. They're all real good, all real talented, they're just young. Spring is good for Josh to learn it and Mason and Todd and all those guys will just keep building on it."

KB, bwaaaaaahhhahhaaaaa! That was funny. We weren't so nice as to refer to him as "Paula" last year after the VT game. Then when he comments that he'll be pulling for his big bro, instead of the team that gave him a scholarship...he's not too popular, let's just say.

I wonder if the University of No Class fans will call him Paula?

As long as he doesn't kick and slap like a girl when somebody touches him, we know we got the better brother.

Packfan08: I couldn't agree more. I wasn't impressed last year, with his arm or his attitude. Or his last name.
