North Carolina is No. 1 again, but just barely.

The Tar Heels (27-3) returned to the top spot on Monday, edging Pittsburgh (28-3) by three points in one of the closest votes since The Associated Press' poll started in 1948-49.

North Carolina , which was an unanimous No. 1 in the preseason poll and for the first seven weeks of the season, received 35 first-place votes and 1,734 points from the 71-member national media panel. The Panthers, who also moved up one place, were No. 1 on 33 ballots and had 1,731 points.

On Jan. 27, 1981, Oregon State and Virginia tied for No. 1 in the poll, the only time that has ever happened.

Connecticut (27-3) dropped to third and was followed by Memphis, Louisville, Oklahoma , Michigan State , Wake Forest , Duke and Villanova.

It's refreshing to have people like you posting your comments. You made intelligent statements without slamming someone in the process. I hope you stick around this site. I seem to be in the minority in that I am a Carolina fan through and through, yet when I make a negative comment about them or a positive comment about a rival, I get called a "poser". I love my Heels, but they're not perfect. I can hate a rival for 40 minutes, but when the game is over, I can at least recognize the legitimate talent they have.

The Heels are #1 right now and it is well deserved. They have been playing some awesome ball. Chances are if they had a rematch against the other teams the outcome would be different but you dont know that for sure. Maybe we will see in the tournament. I would love to see Carolina and Wake in the championship game. Not saying that Wake will beat them but it would be a helluva game on a neutral court. The way this conference has been this year there is no telling who will be playing who. I just hope its teams from North Carolina. The way Wake has been playing this year I am very happy with being #10 in the nation. It keeps the crosshairs off our back. Oh yeah, I hope Maryland goes out in the first round !!!!

I am a State fan, but I have been watching college basketball for a very long time. I can without a doubt say that UNC is better than UConn,Pitt or anybody else in the Big East. This will be how UNC will win the national championship, teams will try to play UNC's game by speeding up the tempo and Carolina will beat them. Its hard to say all these good things about UNC, but most other good teams have 1 or 2 guys that can beat you. UNC has 5 or 6 guys that will beat you.

No.1 Ranking. Doesn't Matter

Regular Season Champs. Good achievement. Bragging Rights. Doesn't Matter.

ACC Tourney Title. Proves a Team can be Hot for a Weekend. Doesn't Matter.

All of this is Garbage that has very little meaning in the scheme of things.

Lets go get a National Championship. Atleast that Matters.
