Chapel Hill, N.C. — North Carolina Director of Athletics Dick Baddour has agreed to a three-year contract extension, the school announced Thursday.
UNC said the Board of Trustees approved the extension earlier Thursday.
Baddour, a Goldsboro native and UNC graduate, is in his 12th year directing Carolina's 28-sport program. Under Baddour, the Tar Heels have won 10 national championships, 60 ACC championships - 11 more than any other school - and finished first among ACC schools in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Directors' Cup nine times.
Baddour's contract extension runs through June 30, 2012. His current salary, $295,000, remains unchanged and is funded by athletic department revenues. He is eligible for additional compensation should the baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball and football teams qualify for NCAA postseason play and if the University's Academic Progress Rate for student-athletes meets approved standards.
"Dick Baddour runs a great athletics department, and he does it within the context of the University's academic mission," Chancellor Holden Thorp said in a statement. "He understands our values and makes it clear to our coaches and student-athletes that academic priorities come first and winning is never placed ahead of institutional integrity."
