UNC football recruit Donovan Tate did not practice with the team Saturday.
Tate had been expected to work out with the Tar Heels, but was still en route from his home state of Georgia.
The #3 pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, Tate has until August 17 to work out a contract with the San Diego Padres.
Assuming Tate does sign with San Diego, the Padres would likely include a clause in the contract preventing him from playing college football.
If the contract talks break down, Carolina would use Tate as a quarterback.

He would be putting his career in baseball on the line if he plays football. Think about your future and making huge bucks. Forget about football. This kid is talented, but he has more talent in baseball.

He's there today as per UNC football's twitter page.

He would be foolish to play football considering how well he will be paid in MLB. You won the sports lottery kid, don't screw it up by playing football and getting yourself injured.

if he's not gonna play foozball then why in the world is he gonna come to training camp and risk having marvin austin fall on him?
He isn't. I think that's the point. This kid is playing MLB next year. Has anyone ever been drafted that high and opted to stay in college a few years instead of taking the money? Not that I know of.
