Cameron Sexton used to play in front of crowds of 60,000 when was quarterback at UNC. Now, the stands will have 6,000 people on a good day when Sexton suits up for Catawba, his new school.
“It’s culture shock, for sure,” Sexton said. “It is like high school to a certain extent. My family is all out here. I’ve got a lot of friends out here. It’s been a different experience.”
Sexton begins his Catawba College experience Saturday in Raleigh against St. Augustine’s College and leads the Indians to a 25-7 win. Sexton completes 23 of 40 passes for 336 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
“I think Cam can do it all,” said Catawba coach Skip Hester. “He doesn’t get the credit he deserves as an athlete. He’s got a strong arm. He’s accurate.”
In the first quarter, Sexton follows up a deep fifty-yard completion by strongly pumping his fist in what looks like a cathartic release of emotion. “It felt good,” he said. “There have been some deep ball questions in my career. I have spent a lot of time working on it, and I’m starting to hit them.”
Sexton enrolled at Catawba to answer those questions about his playing abilities. He started six games last year at UNC after T.J. Yates suffered an ankle injury, and the Tar Heels has a 4-2 record in games Sexton started.
When UNC coaches told Sexton this offseason that he would enter this senior season in a backup role, he decided to graduate early and go to Catawba for his final year of college football eligibility. Sexton still hopes to play quarterback on the pro level.
Sexton said it would be worth it “if my story can inspire maybe one little kid or someone else out there that Cam did, it can be done.”
After Sexton throws his last touchdown in the final minutes against St. Augustine’s, a crowd of North Carolina football and basketball players in attendance give Sexton a standing ovation. When he finishes his postgame interviews, the UNC contingent lines up to congratulate and hug Sexton.
“It hasn’t always been easy,” Sexton said, “but they’ve always been there one hundred percent. I’ve got fifty of my best friends standing here. That’s what makes it worthwhile because they’re there when nobody else is.”

Yes.
TBK I'm pretty sure from what I've read that ECU didn't just back out of a game this year with state. State agreed to change the year I'm sure with some concessions, so I don't know why you won't let it die. Who'd we replace you with on our schedule? App? UNC? Vtech? WVU? Pretty sure any one of those teams would pants Murray state and GW if they ran a combined team out there. Even App with a gimpy Edwards.- Posted by ParadoxInLife
