UNC players, coaches relish Va. Tech win
By Ken Medlin Oct 30, 2009
North Carolina players and coaches were in a jubilant mood Friday after a stunning victory at Virginia Tech.
The Tar Heels had suffered a crushing defeat the Thursday before against Florida State. Carolina led by 18 points in the third quarter before losing, 30-27.
At Virginia Tech, however, UNC responded with a 20-17 victory on Casey Barth’s 21-yard field goal on the final play.
Barth’s kick was reminiscent of his brother Connor’s 42-yardkick that beat No. 4 Miami 31-28 in 2004.
But Casey Bart said his older brother’s kick was bigger – longer kick and a higher-ranked opponent.
UNC’s Deunta Williams, who recovered a critical fumble lat e in the game, was still wishing he’d returned that for a touchdown. He was tackled at the Hokies’ 24-yard line.
“It looked like the Red Sea parted,” Williams said.
Williams’ fumble recovery set up Barth’s winning kick.
The players also joked with coach Butch Davis, who took a hit along the sideline. Davis said the players gave him a hard time about being bowled over, saying he’d never keep his scholarship that way.

Carolina is riding high right now, and they should feel pretty good about the VT game. That game shows why a stupid holding mistake can cost you a game. VT shot themselves in the foot. But, give credit to UNC because they had a plan.

Yeah, I wouldn't count Duke out. Remember the other year in CH, when they were horrible and only lost because their kicker sucked and missed the winning FG towards the open end of Kenan? They will be out for blood this year with a better team and excellent coach. It should be a great game.

This victory by UNC proves once again a playoff is needed. Any body can win on a given day.

^^^Agreed. Even when Duke was a "bad" team, they gave Carolina fits and the Heels barely pulled it out of their shorts the last two years. Duke wants to prove they are the real deal and they want to go to a bowl; they will give Carolina everything they have. I'm hoping that bell stays painted the same shade of blue though.
Hokie, your guys will rebound and be fine. If my Heels could bounce back from that heartbreaker against FSU, VT will do the same. Beamer will see to it, I'm sure.

This Duke team is not like those from the past years. They have given the Heels a little trouble before they were considered a decent team. This should be a good game.
