North Carolina
UNC's Draughn out for season
Nov 8, 2009
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina tailback Shaun Draughn
fractured his left shoulder blade in the team's game
against Duke and will miss the rest of the season.
Draughn was hurt on the first play from scrimmage on Saturday.
He was replaced by Ryan Houston, who rushed for 164 yards on 37
carries to lead the Tar Heels to a 19-6 victory over the Blue
Devils.
The Tarboro, N.C., native started all nine games this season and
is North Carolina's leading rusher with 567 yards on 124 carries.
Draughn ranks seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 63.0
yards per game.

RE: UNC's Draughn out for season
I've wanted to see Houston get more carries all year, but I hate that injuries have forced the issue. Houston is a back who gets better with each carry. Let's hope against Miami to protect TJ long enough to get the ball to the wideouts some. Didn't we have a guy named Highsmith who looked awfully good early in the season. You have to throw it to them though. One more thing... please no more slow-developing, lateral screens. I've only seen them work for one team in America, and they have an offensive tackle in front of the receiver to block when the ball is caught. They just don't work since most teams now have respectable speed pursuing laterally.

While not a true RB but a Tailback, we will see much more of Elzy in the backfield. He is capable of getting the job done along with Houston. The Heels should be fine, as long as TJ improves just a touch on his accuracy. It is what it is with him. He is all the Heels have right now, so he HAS to step it up in the final three games for the Heels to be successful.
GO HEELS!!!

i hate to see any player get hurt, but come on the guy has been overrated ever since he came to CAROLINA IM SORRY BUT THE TRUTH HURTS he fumbles a lot

Overrated ever since he came to Carolina? That would suggest he was recruited as a running back. He came to Carolina as a DB and talked the coaches into letting him tryout at RB, so how you can be overrated at a position that you weren't even recruited for is beyond me.

I believe he WAS recruited as a RB, but converted to DB by the previous staff. Then, he talked the new staff into giving him another chance.

Please tell me this is a nightmare or a very cruel, very early April Fool's joke.

Don't worry. We'll be fine without him as Saturday proved.
