UNC's scout team saw many new faces at practice

Posted August 27, 2010

A person who observed the Carolina football practice Thursday told WRAL News that several defensive players listed as starters on UNC's depth chart were practicing with the scout team.

Among them were DE Robert Quinn, DL Quinton Alton, LB Quan Sturdivant, LB Bruce Carter, CB Kendric Burney, CB Charles Brown, DT Jared McAdoo, DB Curtis Campbell, LB Darius Lipford and S Da'Norris Searcy. One additional player ran with the scout team but could not be identified to make up the 11 players on that defensive team.

Quinn, Sturdivant, Carter, Burney, Brown, McAdoo and Searcy have all previously been running with the first team and were projected starters. Alton, Campbell and Lipford are all freshmen who normally make up the third team.Typically, a scout team or third string is made up of players not expected to start in the upcoming game.

DT Marvin Austin practiced with the second team as he has been doing since last week. S Deunta Williams did not practice Thursday but was running sidelines. He is rehabbing from an injury.

InsideCarolina reported on Thursday that players involved in the recent investigation into academic infractions were relegated to the scout team at practice on Wednesday.

Athletic Director Dick Baddour said during a press conference Thursday night not to make assumptions about who does not play in game one as it may not relate to the ongoing NCAA investigation into alleged player-agent contact or the University's investigation of possible academic infractions.

Friday marks the third day in a row that usually open practices have been closed to the media.

Someone posted that Butch Davis accepted a position with the Dallas Cowboys (good one!)

But on a serious note, I believe we will see a similar headline FOR REAL by the time the season is over, maybe sooner. I just don't think Butch survives the black eye that the university took under his watch (even if he is innocent). Maybe Baddour, too. And quite possibly, Thorpe. But Butch at a minimum. Any time the Chancellor has to interrupt a team's practice to meet with them about a scandal they caused, he is not going to be a happy camper about it!

Sorry THBF, I have responded to some that I didn't think I would. I will try to more objective in the future. Good luck in the future. I really am not one to tear UNC down.
Note the smiley face on my last post. Tongue in cheek. :-)

Obviously you do it the right way. The only way you know. Only it is against NCAA rules. Say good night Butch! :-)

Man,can't everybody just let us get our house in order.I think when we get through with our internal investigation we will be able to show that we didn't do much wrong and we found it,corrected it and now have a squeaky clean program. We do it the right way.
