With an anticipated 350,000 golf fans converging on the tiny Village of Pinehurst for the men's and women's U.S. Open Championships, getting around could be tricky.
Most spectators will be funneled to one of two large parking lots where shuttles will offer rides to the resort grounds.
During the week of June 9 through 15, both a lot to the north, the Red Lot on Beulah Hill Church Road near N.C. Highway 73, and one to the south, the Blue Lot on Sand Pit Road near Roseland Road, will be open with free public parking.
Complimentary shuttles to Pinehurst Resort begin at 5:30 a.m. daily, and the trip is expected to take about 15 minutes. The last shuttles return to the parking lots at 7 p.m. or one hour after play is finished for the day.
During peak traffic times, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., shuttles could be full and the trip may take a bit longer, organizers say.
There is no spectator parking in the immediate vicinity of the golf course.
People requiring lift-equipped shuttle transportation can contact the Transportation Hotline at 1-800-698-0661.
All other parking is by permit only.
Spectator drop-off will only be allowed at the designated area located off Midland Road from the traffic circle near Gate 3.
