One main parking lot funnels fans to women's U.S. Open
Posted June 16, 2014
The women's U.S. Open Championship this week at Pinehurst No. 2 is expected to draw crowds, but not nearly on the scale of the hundreds of thousands who made the men's event a sellout last week.
Organizers have set aside one main park-and-ride lot for fans with tickets to this week's practice rounds (Monday through Wednesday) and competition (Thursday through Sunday).
The Blue Lot, on Sand Pit Road near Roseland Road, offers free parking and complimentary shuttles to Pinehurst Resort beginning at 5:30 a.m. daily.
The trip takes about 15 minutes. The last shuttles return to the parking lot at 7 p.m. or one hour after play is finished for the day.
During peak traffic times, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again between 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., shuttles could be full and the trip may take a bit longer, organizers say.
There is no spectator parking in the immediate vicinity of the golf course.
People requiring lift-equipped shuttle transportation can contact the Transportation Hotline at 1-800-698-0661.
All other parking is by permit only.
Spectator drop-off will only be allowed at the designated area located off Midland Road from the traffic circle near Gate 3.
