The NC State women’s volleyball team extended its conference win streak to four with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21) win against Wake Forest Friday evening in Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack and Demon Deacons engaged in a seesaw battle in the first set that resulted in the Pack winning the frame, 25-23, before State won the second and third sets, 25-21.

The Deacs jumped out to an early lead in the first set, scoring three unanswered points before the Wolfpack registered its first point in the match. Wake Forest (12-5, 1-4 ACC) held the lead until NC State (13-4, 4-1 ACC) took the lead on an attack error by one of the Deacons’ outside hitters. After the score was knotted three different times, Wake regained the lead on a kill by Sam Boesch, 20-19.

Following an NC State timeout, senior Brie Merriwether tallied a kill from setter Tanna Aljoe to trim the deficit to 22-20. Junior Dariyan Hopper followed with a kill of her own, forcing Wake Forest to use a timeout. The Pack closed out the first set on a 6-1 run to win the frame, 25-23.

State started the second set much stronger, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead before Wake called a timeout. Fortunately for the Wolfpack, the timeout did not interrupt its offensive flow as NC State extended its lead to 15-7. The Demon Deacons responded to trim the deficit, but the Pack kept them from taking the lead. State claimed set point on a sideout kill from Hopper.

Senior Meredith Richardson sparked the Wolfpack offense in the third set, smacking nine of her 10 kills in the frame. The Brentwood, Tenn., native recorded the first point of the set and continued to be effective working in the middle of the court to score more points for the Pack.

The tightly contested third set saw 12 ties and six lead changes. State trailed, 23-21, before ending the set on a 4-0 run. Junior Rachel Buckley started the run with a kill and Glass followed with her fifth kill of the match. Glass and Merriwether combined on a block to give the Wolfpack match point and freshman Rachel Eppley followed with a service ace to give the Pack the win.

Hopper paced the Wolfpack offense with a match-high 16 kills and a .312 attacking percentage. Buckley swatted 11 kills and Richardson chipped in with 10. Aljoe dished out 35 and charted 12 digs to record her fifth double-double of the season. Junior Alston Kearns led the defense with 18 digs.

NC State will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 13 when it hosts the Duke Blue Devils. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. inside Reynolds Coliseum and will be streamed live on GoPack.com.
