— No. 15 Carolina swept Virginia Tech 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-14) Friday night, improving to 23-3 overall and 12-3 in ACC play as Victoria McPherson registered nine kills and five blocks, and Lauren Adkins added five kills with a career-high seven blocks.

Kayla Berringer added 10 kills, including the final point of the match, and Jovana Bjelica tallied eight kills with three blocks for the Tar Heels.

"This was a good match for this team to build momentum, and a good confidence builder against a team that is playing really well right now," head coach Joe Sagula said. "I think the difference tonight was that we had a good game plan and executed it really well."

"Our stats didn't really reflect the level of intensity and focus we had tonight. We were able to withstand the runs Virginia Tech had against us and have an answer for them. This is a great time of the year for us to be putting things together, but we have another big challenge tomorrow that we need to get ready for," Sagula said.

Adkins and Neuenfeldt combined for six kills and five blocks as Carolina took a decisive 25-15 first set. Victoria McPherson added another three kills while Jovana Bjelica notched five digs and a block for the Tar Heels, who took advantage of 11 errors and a -.261 attack by the Hokies.

After a quiet offensive first set for Bjelica, she tallied six kills in set two to give UNC the 25-21 win.Kayla Berringer added three kills as the Tar Heels posted a strong .394 team attack with just three errors.

McPherson posted four kills and four blocks while Berringer posted another six kills as UNC claimed the sweep with a 25-14 set three win. Adkins added three blocks and a kill, and Bjelica finished the frame with another two kills and two blocks for UNC.
