Wool E. Bull putting finishing touches on championship party

Sep 11, 2012

Excited to be back on the field, Wool E. Bull runs around the infield.

Although the Bulls season is over, it has been hectic around the DBAP lately. We are anxiously getting ready for the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game on Tuesday, Sept.18. This is the first Championship Game I am hosting, so I want to make sure it goes off without a hitch.

The International League and Pacific Coast League playoffs are down to the wire. Only the Charlotte Knights and Pawtucket Red Sox remain in the IL, while the Omaha Storm Chasers and the Reno Aces are left in the PCL. So while we wait for the results of the finals, I have to make sure this place is in tip-top shape.

Being the host mascot has its own responsibilities. I have to make sure the other mascots feel right at home. I am excited to see who will be joining me on the 18th. Homer the Dragon from the Charlotte Knights doesn’t have to travel very far if his team makes it. Homer and I go way back. I’m used to seeing him whenever I go to visit my other mascot friends around North Carolina. If the PawSox make it to Durham, Paws will take the trip. I think he will feel right at home, though it might be a little bit warm for a polar bear in these parts.

It’s going to be fun to reunite with either Paws or Homer, but I am more excited to see who from the PCL will be coming down to Durham. I haven’t met a lot of my future friends from the PCL, but here is what I know about them. Archie is the face of the Reno Aces. He is, to put it simply, a giant red blob. According to

Hey Bulls fans,

It’s your favorite bovine here, ready to fill you in on my daily life around the DBAP now that the regular season is over. This has been an incredible summer; thank you to every fan that came out to see me this year. Usually after the season, I hop into my Go Kart and ride off into the sunset to get some much needed R&R. Luckily for us though, our season here at the ballpark is not quite over yet. There’s one more HUGE game left. More Info     Durham Bulls Logo More Bulls Stories

Mini Wool E. gang

The Bull days of summer are upon us and time is running out for you to finally pay me and my friends a visit at the DBAP. Rather than write a blogpost recapping the awesome times we have in downtown Durham, I’ve decided to make a detailed list of 11 reasons to catch the 11 remaining Bulls games. Here goes my best David Letterman impression… would anyone like to be my Paul Schaffer? More Info     Durham Bulls Logo More Bulls Stories

Wool E. Bull staying busy on Bulls road trip

Jul 26, 2012

Wool E. Bull wore a Rubik's Cube costume for 80s night.

One of the biggest questions that I get is, “what do you do when the team is out of town?” The better question is what don’t I do!

One of my favorite things that I can do while the team is battling on the road, is host parties at the DBAP. {{a href="page-3373540"}}

Last Saturday I hosted my friends from Habitat for Humanity. Together we put on our annual Bull Moon Bike Ride to help raise money to build new houses in Durham. While most participants used their “normal” bikes, I busted out my mini-Wool E. bike to ride. Custom built, this bike is about 18 inches tall and is only be ridden by skilled professionals - or me.

One thing that I wanted to discuss with my loyal readers is the Bulls new social media rewards club, www.durhamsociabulls.com. Fans can earn points towards sweet prizes when they "like" Durham Bulls Facebook posts, retweet things from @DurhamBulls and connect with the Triangle’s team through other forms of social media. The fan with the most points at the end of the year can redeem them for prizes including a suite at the DBAP and a chance to take BP on the field! But wait, there’s more! One lucky fan will get to have their favorite Bull become their personal servant for that day! (That’s me). Just remember, I often get hungry and might need to use your pool if you have one.

The boys of summer come back to town on Aug. 2 and we have some very exciting things planned. The first night of the homestand is bring-a-book

Bulls' action packed homestand

Jun 23, 2012

The team finally came back home to the DBAP after an eight game road trip. The team traveled up north to take on the IronPigs. I don’t know too much about IronPigs, but I love Ice Pigs! (That is a shout out to my friend Stormy from the Carolina Hurricanes). After splitting the series at two games all, the Bulls traveled back to Rochester and took three games from the Red Wings. Something about that team’s name makes me really mad. Anyway, the Bulls are playing well and things are starting to click for the team.

If you have been living under a rock, Chris Archer one of the Bulls native Carolinians was called up to the Tampa Bay Rays. He made his big league debut the other day and was great. I think it’s that new curve ball I’ve been working on with him. Although I am happy for my friend, I am sad to see him ago. With the open rotation spot, Charlie Montoyo told me to head to my pen and get loose, just in case. I am ready for it, but I told Charlie if I have to play, than he has to entertain the fans for the game. I think he would do pretty well riding around my go-kart.

Exciting things are happening at the DBAP this homestand, Red Panda the acrobat will be here to perform on Saturday. Don’t worry environmentalists it is not a real panda. (We tried to get one, but our groundskeeper did not like the idea of growing bamboo in the outfield). Red Panda is a performance artist who rides a 7ft tall unicycle and throws bowls up in the air and catches

On the sidelines in Durham and Raleigh

Jun 8, 2012

Wool E. Bull and a friend donned 80s-era costumes for Thursday's game.

Thursday was 80s night here at the DBAP. It felt like I jumped into a time machine and went back 30 years to the land of neon colors and wild hair. Fans helped us remember the good ole days by dressing up in crazy costumes, from Magnum PI to Madonna.

I decided to go as a Rubik's Cube because of how perplexing my personality is. Unfortunately someone messed with my cube right before the game, but luckily I was able to solve the puzzle by the end of the night!Wool E. Bull

On Saturday, one of the biggest races in the Triangle will be taking place and guess who will be there?Me, of course!!! The Susan G Komen Triangle Race for the Cure is a spectacular event supporting a great cause.

Cancer is a tough disease that doesn’t just affect the person with it, but also their friends and family.
I tried to get the organizers to let me chase a few runners, encouraging them to run faster and therefore raise more money, but they didn’t bite. Instead they have me cheering on the racers on the sidelines, which is just as good. Regardless, I feel honored to always be invited to help cheer on the hundreds of runners and walkers and put smiles on everyone’s faces. Make sure to come out, support the participants and help raise money to find a cure for breast cancer.

World famous Wool E. Bull needs fans' help

Chewie and Wool E Bull pose before the Red Sox vs. Bulls game on May 18, 2012 in Durham, NC.

Phew, what a homestand it has been. I’d like to start by saying hello to my new friends in the Far East. This homestand was highlighted with one of the biggest games in the history of the DBAP. Last Thursday Bulls hitter Hideki Matsui squared off against fellow countryman, Dice-K Matsuzaka or as I like to call it Godzilla vs. Mothra. Not only was the stadium full of fans to catch the historic game, but crowds in both the USA and Japan were able to watch the game as we broadcasted the Bulls internationally for the first time ever. I wonder how much wire they used to go across the Pacific Ocean from the DBAP??? I had always been famous in the US, but now I can legitimately call myself WORLD famous.

Matsui vs. Dice-K was a pretty big deal, but nothing compared to the main event of the homestand, MY BIRTHDAY. Thanks to all of my friends and fans who came out to celebrate my special day with me. It was soooo much fun. There were fun games, prizes, an awesome cake (made from organic grass), and I won the base race!!!! You should have seen how the crowd reacted after I stepped on home. My friends gave me gift certificates to the Ballpark Corner Store and Bulls Bucks, but they surprised me with the best gift a friendly Bull could ever ask for, the key to the City of Durham. It was a huge honor and I was so shocked to get this awesome gift. Durham is truly a great place to live, work and of course play. I love entertaining fans

Bulls homestand will have a birthday party, Star Wars and more

May 14, 2012

While the team is on the road in upstate New York, I am furiously getting ready for our next home stand. We have sooooo much going at the ballpark over the next two weeks.

The team comes home on Tuesday, May 15 to take on the Pawtucket Red Sox, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The rivalry between the Red Sox and Rays doesn’t just exist at the major league level, it translates throughout both organizations and has grown significantly over the last few years.

On top of great baseball at the DBAP this next homestand, we have tons of promotions going on.

Leading off, we have Star Wars Night at the DBAP on May 18. I will use my Jedi instincts to help fight the Dark Side (a.k.a. the Red Sox). I hear we are going to have some of the characters from the movie here at the park! There is one character in particular that I am dying to meet. Can you guess who it is? The first person to find it on my facebook fan page, like it and then post the answer will win two tickets to a Bulls game!

The next night, my old friend, and former Bulls skipper Bill Evers, will be returning to Durham. This is not just a normal visit, the winningest manager in Bulls history will be inducted into the International League Hall of Fame! A living legend. You are going to want to come celebrate with me and 10,000 of his biggest fans!

Finally on the 20th, it’s the most important day of the

Game day superstitions

Apr 26, 2012

Excited to be back on the field, Wool E. Bull runs around the infield.

Welcome to Wool E’s World, the official blog of Minor League Baseball’s most famous mascot…ME.

The Bulls get home from their longest road trip of the season on Friday, and since they had a pretty rough time away from the DBAP (I think they missed me) I thought I’d spend my first blog post talking about what I do to ensure the Bulls win at home.

Like many players, I have my own superstitions regarding baseball. Of course, I never touch the foul line when walking on the field and I will NEVER say what a pitcher is doing when he has not allowed a hit.

I ALWAYS wear my lucky hat. I got the hat six years ago and it just became lucky. Out of all of those years, in five of them the Bulls have won the division and one national championship. I don’t how the team would have gotten there without my hat.

I need to make sure that I am well fed before every game. I eat my pregame meal of a delicious sample of infield grass a few hours before game time.

I don’t like to press the team’s luck. When the team is playing well and it looks like they are headed towards victory, I don’t bring the Victory Flag above the bottom step of the dugout, for fear of jinxing the win.

When we do get to the playoffs, if we are in a rally, I don’t move from my spot at the DBAP. Even if a foul ball is coming my way, I won’t move. If the ball hits me it brings the team extra luck.

Lastly, right before game time, as I walk away from my bedroom,
