ECU-UNC to play home-and-home series through 2013

East Carolina and North Carolina agreed to a two-year home-and-home football series in 2012 and 2013.
The Pirates and Tar Heels meet at 8 p.m. Saturday at ECU's sold-out Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The two will continue a series that began in 1972 and currently spans 13 games. The new agreement includes a visit to Kenan Stadium on Sept. 22, 2012 before UNC returns to Greenville on Sept. 28, 2013.
"It remains important for us to maintain ties to our regional rivals and continuing our football relationship with North Carolina certainly is in line with that," East Carolina Director of Athletics Terry Holland said. "The anticipation and excitement make this a tough ticket in both stadiums and creates interest throughout the region."
Saturday's contest will mark the third-straight year the two programs have met, but the first at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium since the Pirates' 34-31 victory in 2007.
“We look forward to facing ECU over the next two seasons,” said UNC Director of Athletics Dick Baddour. “For a number of reasons, this is a good game for the state of North Carolina and it’s an exciting game for fans of both institutions.”

Let's put it in other terms you may understand. Let's say you're investing some money trying to build a solid financial base. Your broker presents two possible investments. One is risky where they is a decent chance you will lose money, and if you do make money, it will be a small return. The other carries very little risk and while it won't pay off big, you're almost guaranteed to turn a marginal profit. No one takes high risk, low reward investments. Right now, that's what ECU is.
As much as people will claim it isn't fair that ECU is held to a higher standard for scheduling, its the way it is for non-conference games. Until there is a legitimate playoff system, that's the way it is always going to be. I never said it was fair, I just explained why it is the way it currently is from the scheduling stand point.

Yeah, I was going to say, UNC had a terrible team with no depth that year and ALL freshmen. EZU had a veteran team and a pretty decent team from what I recall and still almost lost that game. lol Remember, 2 wins EVER against UNC. LOL
Remember UNC has only played at Dowdy 2 times and the record is 1-1. We played all the other games at yalls house. It's to quiet there for our team to get pumped up

I love how people comment on ECU's academics without knowing a thing about us! We are strong academically and just because the other NC schools want to look down on us doesn't mean that they are justified in doing so. ECU is a force...so continue to underestimate us and we will continue to grow. Pirate Nation is the best school to be a part of. By the way, how many of you UNC fans would have been accepted had you applied? Hmmm...not many huh? Why pull for a school that would reject you? Yes...I did get accepted to UNC and NC State but chose ECU for the atmosphere and wouldn't change it for anything!

academics means what it takes to get in, not how the students do after acceptance. UNC requires a higher academic standard just to be accepted to the school. ECU (EZU because they let anyone in), doesn't have the same standards as other NC schools.
