UNC counts costs of UNC probe
Oct 5, 2011
The University of North Carolina has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars defending its football team since the advent of the NCAA investigation into the program more than a year ago, a university spokeswoman told WRAL News.
Nancy Davis, associate vice chancellor for university relations, said UNC has spent $300,000 on outside legal counsel and untold numbers of man hours in internal investigations, responding to the NCAA's allegations and fighting and satisfying public records requests related to the football program.
The university has penalized itself an additional $50,000 as a fine for the wrong-doings found, which include players taking inappropriate benefits from agents and others.
