Panthers to part with Clausen, interest in Moss?
Feb 14, 2012
The Carolina Panthers spent the lockout shortened offseason signing many of their own players, but it puts the team in an interesting spot as the NFL calendar year ends on March 13th. The front office has to find ways to dump salary to make cap room and find a way to keep key contributors such as Jeremy Shockey, who could make around $4 million next season.
Quarterback Jimmy Clausen could be one of those cap casualties. Picked up in the 2nd round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Clausen spent all of last season behind Derek Anderson on the depth chart and wasn't active for any games. The Panthers owe him a roster bonus of $923,000, but could clear over $1 million if they release him. Anderson could also be gone through free agency, but Carolina has shown interest in drafting Russell Wilson as a viable backup to Cam Newton.
Meanwhile, Randy Moss will be an object of curiosity for Charlotte. The wide receiver announced on UStream that he wants back in the NFL in 2012, which has some columnists playing fantasy football GM for the Panthers. At 35, Moss isn't the same deep threat he was just a few years back in New England. He was total non-factor after being unloaded by the Patriots and was largely seen as a locker room problem. That's something the Panthers don't really need.

Newton did his part last season and did Smith. They don't have a defense that can stop people. No matter how many TD passes they score doesn't add up to winning games. Spend some money. Send the laggards to the curb, and obtain some defensive guys that can get Cam to the SB.RE: Panthers to part with Clausen, interest in Moss?
Loads of talent out there. I still believe that there is a few QB's in front of Wilson. I like the guy. But, look at the long term.Clausen vs. Moss vs. RW
Oh, and RW is an interesting idea - probably a good idea....RE: Panthers to part with Clausen, interest in Moss?
Dump Clausen......don't even talk to Moss...AND get some DEFENSE!!RE: Panthers to part with Clausen, interest in Moss?
We don't want Moss in the locker room getting into Cam's head. Or his ego fighting with Steve Smith for targets. Cut Jimmy Clausen TODAY please, this guy is not an NFL caliber QB.Lets be honest guys, we need help on the defensive side of the ball. Add an OL or 2, and mayyyyybe a WR, resign Shockey, and we're set on offense. On defense, however, there are many gaps. I just hope we can get Dre Kirkpatrick
