How sweet it is for NC State

Posted March 18, 2012

The NC State players and staff can't help but smile. There's been a different energy here in Columbus for this Wolfpack team, they seemed relaxed yet focused and absolutely determined to win. And they did.

Most people counted Friday's game as a win for the NC State team, saying that San Diego State was an overrated No. 6 seed, but for a team that barely made it into the NCAA tournament to begin with no game should be counted as a win.

It's been a tough season for NC State and their fans with several close games not falling in their favor but it's paid off and now the Wolfpack is heading to the Sweet 16. Something the players and the fans alike never expected coming into the season.

Athletic Director Debbie Yow beamed after State's win over Georgetown, she admitted she wasn't a coach but knew the win was an upset over a very good Georgetown team. Yow found C.J. Leslie in the tunnel and grabbed him for a hug and to tell him how proud she was of him and the team.

The exchange between the two could make anyone happy for the team. It's been a roller coaster for Wolfpack fans, a few hard years under Sidney Lowe, a new Athletic Director, a new head basketball coach and no garruantee that things would look up.

But now Wolfpack nation can celebrate more than they expected to and head coach Mark Gottfried is encouraging it

"I just hope they keep celebrating, it's all good," Gottfried said with a huge smile on his way out Sunday.

To add to the 'sweetness and light,' I'd like to post a few comments from

"Looks like NC State was 0-8 this year against ranked opponents. We should handle these guys." -- Great enthusiasm
"Oh my God. Just listening to ESPN and one of the commentators (don't know who he is) said something about this being a game that NC State can win. These guys just can't stop themselves. Fine. Let's show them again." -- sure showed us
"Let's shut down CJ Leslie. Lets enjoy this and take it one game at a time." -- hope you enjoyed it, 1 game is all you had left
"The Hoyas will beat NCSt tomorrow. State has not faced a team with our length on the perimeter. Brown, Howell and Wood will not be able to get the looks that they normally are able to get." -- bahaha
"NC State has no weapons that should cause us concern provided we guard that white kid. The rest of the team are 6th men. This is certainly a winnable game.." -- this was actually DURING the game. pfffff
"Welcome to big east play!" -- also DURING the game, hahahahahaaaaaaa
"These NC State guys think they are actually making progress against the Georgetown team-the one with Sims on the roster. LOL" -- L.O.L. indeed "Ugh. ugh. ugh. Time to make adjustments." -- You think? "We're in trouble. Huge trouble." -- Yurp "they're making everything" -- uh huh "Clark got a good look too. Ugh. At least we didn t lose in the first round, right???" -- there's that famous Georgetown optimism!! ahahahahaaaaa

I 'garruantee' some Carolina fans don't count wins as wins.

If ACC refs were calling that game, it would not be a win, so can it *really* count?

Did 'most' people count Friday's game as a loss for Duke too?
