What's your schedule look like?

As a player I used to LOVE this time of the year! Still do.

Now is the time that every team in America is UNDEFEATED. Everyone has large expectations about what’s going to happen in the upcoming season. Here at the ACC Football Kickoff in Greensboro, I am getting the same reaction from every player representing an ACC team: "We are going to have a great season this year."

How do you really know what your record is going to look like this year? How do you know your going to be successful this year?

Players have a ritual to figure that out. You pick up the media guide and look at the team breakdowns that you going to play this upcoming season. (That’s not exactly true; the first thing you do is look at how many times your name appears in the media guide and what your action photos look like. ) Then you look at the schedule and separate the games you KNOW you’re going to win from the games you THINK YOU CAN WIN. There are also those OTHER games - the MAYBE games. The games if everything goes right, you can win. But ALL of them are winnable!!

So let’s do it.

    I totally agree with you, BG. The expansion was really about $$$ and I don't think that panned out. WVa would be a great addition to the ACC.

    If we can beat Alabama on 9-5-09, we could have a great confidence builder. If not, I hope that it is close. Just hope that it is better than last year in Charlotte.

    ^^^I really wish Swofford had gone after WVa instead of BC. They're bigger-time in football and basketball, and it made more sense regionally and culturally. This whole "Boston media market" reason is a dud. Boston don't give a rat's behind about college sports. The "exposure" doesn't exist.

    And then ECU would slip into WVa's spot in the Big East. Makes sense to me.

    ^^^I agree. Part of the ACC expansion idea was expanding the market and ECU wouldn't do that, but to me it never made sense to bring in BC - no disrespect towards BC, but geographically it didn't make sense. The ACC has been a southern conference and to go all the way up the coast just doesn't cut it. I think ECU football is good enough to be in the ACC, but you're right about having five schools in one state.

    That will never happen.
    ECU would bring nothing to the ACC. Plus, 8 other members of the ACC might object to having 5 schools within one state.

    ^^^Yes, I'd have to say that Skip has ECU headed in the right direction. We've had some good games with ECU - they're a good team - I think they should be in the ACC.

    Mark - for a State guy you're optimistic about Carolina's season. Duke has taken us to the wire, so I wouldn't consider that a definite win. We also can't seem to win in the state of Virginia for some reason, so VT will be tough. I do like your breakdown though and hope you're right.

    I wouldn't throw Pitt in the "know you can win" category. I see both State and Carolina competing for 8-10 wins this year.
