Watch: Ward cut by skate of Rick Nash

The Hurricanes' Cam Ward is spending the night in a Columbus hospital after suffering a severe laceration during Saturday night's game against Columbus.
You can see the incident here.
You can imagine how much pain Ward is in, as he's unable to skate off of the ice on his own. Here's hoping that we see number 30 out there sooner rather than later.

Yikes! It appeared that it was just the front of the blade and not the bottom of the skate. I am guessing it could have been much worse. It could have struck the femoral artery.WORMWORD is right... I am surprised that doesn't happen more often.
Seems to me there should be a lightweight pad on the top of the thighs to protect that area. Seems to be a vulnerable spot on a goalie to me

I travelled up for the game - we were on the opposite end of the arena from where it happened. The initial thought was a pulled muscle but when you saw the trainers rushing out with towels, you knew it was worse.I'm squeemish just thinking about it.
