Raleigh women are winners ... in rugby
Nov 10, 2009
You might not think of the Triangle as a hotbed for women’s rugby ... but think again.
On Sunday, the Raleigh Venom won the USA Rugby Division II national title in Houston. The Venom beat the Pittsburgh Angels 12-0 in the final. Pittsburgh had beaten Raleigh 17-15 in pool play the day before.
Raleigh scored first in the final, going up 5-0 on a try by Lauren Buslinger early in the first half. Whitney Post's try, converted by Sarah Foster, gave the Venom its 12-0 lead.
This is actually the Venom’s third Division II national title.
