Poll voting can get you fan mail

Posted November 23, 2009

I love the passion that fans have for their teams. Take for example, a fan of Oregon State football who sent me an e-mail describing my ability to vote in the AP football poll.

Two out of the last three weeks I had the Beavers ranked 25th. This week I dropped them out only because I gave the final vote to Wisconsin. The Badgers were 14th my poll last week but a 2-point loss to Northwestern dropped them to 8-3.

With that said, enjoy this note to me from an Oregon State fan.

"You are officially the most uninformed voter in the AP sportswriters college football poll. Are you aware that you are the one and only voter not to place Oregon State in the top 25. Have you ever watched the Beavers play? Are you aware they have a quarterback that is completing almost 70% of his passes, are you aware that Jaquiz Rogers is second only to Toby Gerhardt in the pack 10 in rushing? Have you even watched any Pac 10 football this year? "

"All I can say is you are one ignorant fool to skip the Beavers. Especially in a week when they put themselves in place to play in the Rose Bowl. I hope you pull you head out next week and take a look at the future winner of the Pac 10 and Rose Bowl representative. "

Signed,

Beavers fan

For the record, I have watched Pac 10 football. On Saturday, I saw Cal beat Stanford and Oregon beat Arizona.

Now to the local scene. North Carolina made it's way into the nation's poll at #23. That's where I had the Tar Heels ranked last week and this week they are 19th in my poll sandwiched between Miami and Clemson.

Carolina's defense makes them a worthy top 25 team and why I had them ranked after 3 games into the season. Regardless of how poorly Carolina's offense plays, that defense is a point producer and game changer.

So here's my poll for this week....

1-Texas
2-Florida
3-Alabama
4-TCU
5-Boise State
6-Cincinnati
7-Ohio State
8-Georgia Tech
9-Pittsburgh
10-Oregon
11-Penn State
12-Oklahoma State
13-Virginia Tech
14-Iowa
15-Houston
16-Utah
17-BYU
18-Miami
19-North Carolina
20-Clemson
21-Mississippi
22-LSU
23-USC
24-Cal
25-Wisconsin

Jeff, Bama and Texas will play for the title game because they both have ex-Georgia players who are the head defensive cords. Will Muschamp(Tex) and Kirby Smart(Bama) who helped Sabon win at LSU. When Jimbo Fisher gets tired of waiting for Bowden to retire, one of these two guys will replace Mark Richt at Georgia. This will be the time when UGA gets their title and not just an SEC title or a BCS win. Thanks!!! Stu from Wake Forest.
