Tom O'Brien wants quiet during school song
Nov 29, 2009
Ever since Tom O'Brien arrived at N.C. State, he and his team have gathered in the end zone after games while the band plays the school alma mater.
Do you think this is a tradition the coach takes lightly? Umm...no.
Check out O'Brien's disdain shows for some of his players' misbehavior during the song after the win against Carolina. Better yet, look at Ted Larsen's reaction in the bottom right corner immediately after.
Laugh, people. It's funny.

NC State fans, and I suspect that they are mostly students and young people doing this, arent the only fans doing this. I have also heard this at other stadiums---college and pro....and not just football either. Ive heard it at several hockey arenas and MLB stadiums.RE: Tom O'Brien wants quiet during school song
I agree that shouting "home of the WOLFPACK" disrespects the national anthem. It's worse when State fans do it at opposing teams' venues. I've seen this several times. This disrespects the anthem and the opponent.RE: Tom O'Brien wants quiet during school song
Really who cares about the stupid school song, no one died defending it, but as for the national anthem that is totally different...i have been to a few state games, all of which they lost:), and hearing the disrespect that the pack fans have for it is dishearting knowing it represents allota brave men and women who have died for it! theres nothing brave or heroic about sports and those terms should never be used while discussing a GAME!!RE: Tom O'Brien wants quiet during school song
^^ I agree, cdcd. I cringe each time the National Anthem is played prior to a State game -- the shouting of "red" and "Wolfpack" instead of "brave" is just juvenile and disrespectful. It appears to be mostly students doing it. At basketball games we used to have guest soloists -- now the pep band plays. As for Coach O'Brien yelling at the players to "shut up," I say way to go coach. The season was over, but the desire for discipline is ongoing.
